But the thing is Dodo that they must do it every year now. They cant just make a big push on year and get it done. If they dont do it every year after their big push year they will get busted. The fans will only respond to the big pushes for so long before they no longer work
I guess I thought that they had to make it once every two years, although that could throw a program "back and forth" into that "restricted" category. I believe that teams in the "restricted" category are not eligible for bowls, so obviously having that happen to your program would be very detrimental (and wouldn't help you re-gain the attendance if your program doesn't have a bowl to play for, if that's even a possibility).

I still look for some slight "give" by the NCAA on how this thing will be implemented........if they didn't "go" for the MAC's 3 year proposal, how about a 2 year (i.e. if you don't hit the 15K in two years, you go into the restricted category one year before getting the boot) rule. I think a 2 year rule would be much fairer, as then one horrible year (let's say your team went 2-9 or something) wouldn't knock you into that restricted category immediately.
Some of the other "mid-major" program that voted against recinding the proposed rule better hope they don't have two or three lousy season in a row, or they might be relegated to I-AA status.
Guess that is why I find C-USA votes on the MAC amendment as short-sighted (not to mention pretty chicken sh!t given that they raided and potentially weakened the WAC and the MAC)........some of their newer programs are not 'slam dunks" on making 15K should they have a bad year, and if they lose TCU and grab L-Tech (although I guess they seem to be preferring Temple if they can get 'em or even UTEP, who is lousy in football but draw well considering), they will have a borderline program. In fact, losing TCU may change C-USA's mind about this kind of an amendment depending on who they pick up next.
Geez enuf with this attendance mumbo jumbo.
Just send a few Toledo officials around the conference to count attendance.
Problem solved.
:D
Good idea, but I think the NCAA already thought of that and put in the requirement to physically COUNT everybody in the stadium in one way or another. 03-razz
Yes, and we all know how well athletic departments do at policing themselves. Who's watching the foxes?

If we inflate our numbers, why did we only have 21,920 average attendance this year?
Why do you assume the 21,920 isn't inflated? 03-razz
It wasn't. I've gotten pretty good at estimating the Glass Bowl crowd the last couple of years. One game this year I was off by ONE!! Seriously, the 21K attendance this year was just that...and disappointing.
Maybe the 'special' Toledo football attendance counters have been tranferred over to basketball this season? Hmmmm. I hear that place was packed for the game with the Herd a few days ago, well at least according to those 'special' counters.
Don't know why you'd say that Jim...the place hasn't been packed in a long time, and the game against the Herd was only slightly better than avg this year. Attendance doesn't completely suck, but it's not the 8,500+ that some of us old timers got accustomed to.
I thought it was a pretty decent crowd Fatman, considering that Toledo didn't have the luxury of getting those famed 3000 - 5000 Herd faithful that customarily travel to all of Marshall's away contests.

I am not assuming anything....I was at the games. You are assuming based on "Hurd Fulkloor."

I look (hope?) for some give, too.

I'd settle for allowing two members of the MAC (or any other I-A conference) to be exempt in any given year.

Thats a neat idea.
