Our post play has been bad. Hughes , Byrd, McKenzie all need a lot of coaching on how to play inside. I thought about the coaches we have and noted that we have no one on staff that has every played or had any experience coaching on how to play the post. Our staff were all guards I believe (and good ones too which I guess with our poor guard play blows this theory). Football hires people to teach specific positions. Why wouldn't our BB team have at least one person that could work with our big people. Just an observation.

Fact is none of the big men on our roster outside of Marcus Smallwood are all that talented. Rob Judson took a flyer on three dime a dozen athletic big men in James Hughes, Rome Sanders, and McKenzie in the hopes that at least one of them would turn into something. Doesn't look like that investment is going to pay off. While I'm not about to defend Judson, perhaps he recruited all three because he had no viable chance to get any halfway decent or ranked player in the area at the time. The theory makes sense when you consider these guys were all part of Judson's first recruiting effort. That and the fact that NIU isn't exactly a hotbed for hoops.

We haven't seen the worst of our inside game. Wait until next year when Marcus is gone. No matter how talented, there is no way Cyrus Tate and perhaps also Craig Reichel can step in and have an immediate impact. Especially with the lousy "talent" that will surround them upfront. Next year is going to be BRUTAL.
