I know hockey is not a MAC sport, but a few of our schools are known for prowess outside MAC competition (i.e. Ball State is ranked in the top 10 in volleyball right now, and has been to numerous final 4's in that sport), and Miami's hockey team moved up from #11 to #7 after sweeping Michigan State over the weekend. Since a number of B10 schools play hockey, it's a nice way to "raise the profile" of MAC member institutions.

BTW, hockey is very popular spectator sport at Miami, and our trustees are considering building a new hockey arena.

P.S. Meant to say NMR..........not NFR. Sorry.
The trustees already greenlighted the Goggin replacement. Remember, they need that space to build the new engineering building.

And there's never any need to apologize for discussing college hockey amongst MAC fans. Many of our schools field a team.
You can check out the new arena via this link. It's a flash site, so I can't link the new hockey arena directly.

Beautiful, just beautiful. (DG/Dodo, if you can believe it, I had not seen that architect's site).

So, $32 mil for a hockey arena, $4 mil for a baseball stadium (completed), $800,000 for Fieldturf (completed), $5 mil for the Strength and conditioning building above Yager stadium (completed), and the initial $5.5 mil approved out of a total of $25mil for Yager stadium renovations. (first phase this season with permanent lights, scoreboard/video board and Cradle of Coach's Plaza, next year new stands and luxury loges). Standing still? I don't think so. 04-bow
that place is spectacular.....it looks like an old time hockey barn, a building that hockey should be played in....the outside is reminicent of Withrow court....the inside is classy.....not overdone, but just right, with the right amount of seating....and wow....it's just amazing...let's get this thing done!
Congrats on the ranking and excellent year so far.

I was holding off for the right moment to share that with you. I didn't want you go into a coma and miss any work! 03-wink
Oh, and you forgot about our new softball facility -- about $2M.

Wow! That proposed hockey arena is beautiful! When is it being built?
Congrats Redhawks on the ice success. And the plans for that new arena look very impressive to say the least.

Miami hockey is becoming a power in the CCHA...BG will be back at the level with a couple more seasons of Scott Paluch hockey! 04-rock 04-rock
Damn!! I wish we still had ice hockey!!! That's a great looking new barn.
Yeah, but how are they doing in Women's golf?

Next year. I think we're breaking ground this Spring.
DoDo, where on campus will the new ice arena be?
I believe that it is going to replace the one true eyesore on campus - the sad little buildings that are currently used as married student housing.
Actually, the new ice arena will be between the rec center and phillips/new student health center. Miami Manor (the east bloc married student housing) are being razed to put in new university-owned undergrad student apartments.

Also in the mix is Miami's first parking garage, a 600-car building adjacent to the new ice arena.
And Miami sweeps Notre Dame this weekend..........crowd of 2700 on hand (official capacity of 2200) for tonight's game. National ranking may go up another notch or two this week.

P.S. Hey, I know it isn't football, but it's pretty cool to go 4-zip vs. Michigan State and Notre Dame in a major NCAA sport in back-to-back weekends! 04-rock

RS,

Thanks for the clarification - I'll really miss the Manor :D
