We just have to get hot and win the MAC tourney right? I think we can do it, we just have to get it together soon, and i think we are all about equal in the MAC. Western Michigan maybe a little better.

BUT I STILL HAVE HOPE!
Ironically, "still life" is how our team's play has been described. :D

My concern is with the play of Marcus. He seems to be more frustrated every game and his play has fallen off. Hard to blame him with the double and triple teams and lack of support inside. Without him being at the top of his game along with PJ we have little hope for this season.

I agree with dan. There isn't much this team can do...but there is still hope.
To have a chance in the tournament, we'll need huge games from Marcus and PJ and all of our younguns will have to step-up and play solid, controlled, mistake-free basketball. If AM can minimize turnovers, Paulsen, McKinney and Hughes can make solid contributions, and most importantly, if Judson can keep a consistent lineup on the floor, we could be a dangerous team in the tournament.

For the tournament, we should start Marcus, Hughes, McKinney, PJ and AM, with Paulsen as the sixth man and Sanders rotating in if and when we need D and muscle.
I like that FC, you think coach judson will do it?

Come on willy and dan have faith, stranger things have happened, anyone can win on the hardwoord, THATS WHY THEY PLAY THE GAMES!

By the way there was an article in the trib about pancratz and that other guy from sburg...I'll try to find it and link it up.
are u guys morons? i mean c'mon. win the mac tourney? there not even close to getting a chance to even be in the mac tourney right now. and if they were to get hot and get in as the bottom seed. this team plays like shhit on the road and would get blown out by a top mac seed on the road. stop dreaming guys and face reality, this seasons done. now they can only play spoiler
Tropes, all 13 schools appear in the MAC tourney. Aside from that, I agree we will have a hard time winning one game, let alone four.

haha, thats funny...There is always a chance thats why you play the game tropes.
I admittedly don't pay much attention to MAC basketball - just never been a huge BB fan to begin with - but since Buffalo won in DeKalb they've been on fire! If you want a team to look out for in the tourney, try the hot one.... 04-bow

Sorry I didn't read this before I made my post..Buffalo is hot and shows what NIU can do if we pull ourselves together and cut down on the silly mistakes.
Flying Corn Wrote:By the way, have you looked at the MAC standings lately? With the exception of Miami and WMU, no one is playing dominating basketball.
 Miami??? Who are they dominating?
We're winning by an average of 12.7 ppg. WMU is second at 12.6.
Miami is 5th at 2.1.
They currently are 2 games back of us with a trip to Kent coming up.
We are 5-1 on the road, 5-0 at home.
Are you sure you meant Miami?

I keep getting blasted everytime I challenge the caliber of talent on Rob Judson's team. Outside of Marcus Smallwood and the three freshmen Ryan Paradise, Paige Paulsen and Michael McKinney (a sufficient sample size has not yet been gathered to make an informed assessment on these three) I take issue with everybody else on this roster. Excluding the seniors from the equation because they will soon be gone and it doesn't matter (Walter Thompson, Al Sewasciuk and Mr. Enigma PJ Smith) I am dying to know how anybody can defend any of the following players.

Anthony Maestranzi - grossly in over his head despite seeming to be a nice kid who plays with a big motor - lousy "quarterback of the court," poor ball handling, mediocre passing skills, mediocre shooting touch.

Todd Peterson - should thank the heavens everyday that he was given a four year scholarship for possessing exactly one talent that he isn't even very good at (3 point shooting) - wooden and slow moving up and down the court, no ball handling ability, no ability to move with the ball, lousy defensive skills.

James Hughes - an athletic big guy who is still very raw, but who has flashed amazingly little pure basketball skills in this his 2nd year within Judson's program. While clearly in the minority on this one, I have seen nothing to be bullish about Hughes' future in a Huskie uniform.

Bryan McKenzie - unfair to assess given lack of playing time and now season ending injury - but probably an outright bust when all is said and done.

Rome Sanders - a big guy with clear basketball talent, but also a moody and erractic performer on the court who often seems to be in Judson's doghouse.

Please tell me. What have any of the aforementioned showed that makes you optimistic for their future. To me I see 5 guys who are underqualified to be playing in the MAC. Two more years of Maestranzi, Peterson and McKenzie depresses me like nothing else. Two more years of Sanders is less of a concern, but still gives an ulcer (I suspect especially to Judson). I can live with three more years of Hughes under the hope that he might ultimately pan out to something serviceable (though I doubt it).
I think what has to make you optimistic about this team is #1 our size in the middle, The McKenzie frenzie and Hughes, Both around 7'0, and then our good chance to have a pretty darn good wing player, be it McKinney or Clair, or peterson even.

Sure peterson and maestranzi are having bad years, and the sad fact is we have to live with maestranzi at PG because rob either couldn't or didnt recruit a PG.

All of those factors on the table lets remember on thing about these guys, THEY ARE KIDS, they are inconsistant, but the key is for them to become more and more consistant each year, and that my friend is what gives me hope. These guys do have some physical skills, Hughes is a big boy who shows something every game, McKinney can be a star if given a chance, Maestranzi can bring down his turn overs, he just needs to concentrate, and peterson, well peterson will shoot lets just hope his outside shot becomes more consistant.

KEEP THE FAITH :)

By the way, be excited about Pancratz, Clair, and tate, these kids may be something special, they may not, but lets keep the hope alive.

Don't discount the range Hughes has. For a man his size its great, pleany of potential for him, hes just a freshman.

Robert i agree with you, judgment on Hughes should be held off till he actually gets some pt.

Then again maybe the fact he hasn't shown alum anything is a bad sign. I mean if not everyone is sold on him what if the coaching staff is split like we on the board are. Granted the split is around 5-1 give or take, but that one hold out can be a big voice.

But alum i'll tell you this, development of a big man is indeed hard when a coaching staff doesn't have a talented big man coach. In fact this season we have seen rob have more shortcomings as a coach then we have seen good things he can do.
