because we beat Western today, they deserve it for scheduling a basketball game in West Virginia at the same time as a NASCAR race. Now personally I wish one big pile-up would end that "sport" for good, but that isn't going to happen. I know Marshall contested the game's time as inopportunistic but was told that would be the time. They made their bed they can sleep in it.
I heard there were practically no fans at the Terd basketball game because of a car race. If West Virginia had professional sports like Ohio, Marshall would have to pay fans to come to their games. Is the Terds still counting tickets sold instead of butts in the arena?

4100 in attendance. That's right at our average. You ever get tired of the taste of your foot.

Paid attendance or actual attendance? :D

I don't know how they count them Rocky. Jesus your exasperating. The place looked pretty close to half full and mostly full in the lower tiers and endcourts. We hold about 9000, so I'm guessing 4000 and change is about right and consistent with the announced attendance of around 4120. I don't remeber exactly what he said just the 41-hundred part. THe point is that a lot of people complained that they couldn't do both and it is a dumb schedule. If Cincinnati and Cleveland were both playing on Sunday and the MAC scheduled Toledo a game on the same Sunday, wouldn't you be a little PO'd? Oh nevermind. It happens all the time when OSU plays on a Saturday.
Memphis will make fun of your attendance and want to run you folks out of their conference.
Don't mean to be dense, but what does a tip off time have to do with an upset? I get the dent to the MAC's two bid chances, can't get the signifance to a game time.
What would games in Cincinnati or Cleveland have to do with attendance in Toledo? How many people would really drive from Cincy or Cleveland to go to a Toledo basketball game? People in Cleveland like Kent or Akron or something. People in Cincy like Cincinnati or Miami.
The MAC was only going to get one bid this year, anyway. The RPIs are too low.
Have to disagree on the RPI thing. Kent and Western's RPI's are not too bad, still making them candidates for at-large bids. However, their "margin for error" (i.e., additional losses) is very slim. Of course, a lot also depends on how the other bubble teams do.

My prediction (as of Sunday evening): one team in, as both WMU and KSU will probably lose at least two more games. Hope I'm wrong, though.
no MAC rep on the selection committee = 1 team
If you want a recipe for poor attendance for Marshall basketball follow these steps.

1. Have the Herd go on a four game losing streak.
2. Schedule the first game home after the four game losing streak on Wednesday night (church night in these parts).
3. Have the opponent for the Wednesday night game be a directional Michigan school from the bottom half of the other division. (No offense EMU. I think you have an entertaining and improving team, but I only count as one in attendance.)
4. Schedule the second game following the four game losing streak on Sunday afternoon at the same time as the Daytona 500.

I'm surprised the crowds for Wednesday and today were as good as they were. Both games had relatively small but noisy crowds.

I think that the MAC had a decent shot at two bids this year, but no longer. Hate to see our conference leaders p!ss a loss away to second division MAC clubs, as it just kills the RPI and Sagarins. Now, we're down to only one lousy bid again....sigh! 03-banghead

I was talking about fotball and how many people would stay home and watch the NFL games as oppsed to going to the Toledo home game.

And as for tip-off time and upset, they aren't related. I just meant that us upsetting Western may cause them not to be looked at for a bid if they lose the tourney to Kent which would mean one bid for the league. That is the punishment for making us play at the same time as the biggest NASCAR race of the year. Karma so to speak.

PS I was just goofing around as usual....no need to get any panties in a wad.
I was always one that was disappointed that Marshall FB was leaving the MAC and readily admitted that the MAC was less a conference without Marshall in FB.

I have defended the MAC from C-USA, Marshall and UCF flamers, and have been accused of flaming because I dared to honestly access the new C-USA (which I contend is going to be a weaker conference in FB - and about the same in BB as the MAC-12).

But I have not flamed Marshall for leaving (I've disagreed with their fans that contend that C-USA will be a stronger FB conference - but I never flamed Marshall for deciding to leave).

But I think the "scheduling around NASCAR events" is reason enough for them to go. That's just scary! I guess they do fit better in C-USA. I live in the Motor City, but the mere thought of wasting an afternoon watching "traffic" go by is enough to induce a coma.

They scoff at the idea that snow/sleet/freezing rain would hurt late fall football attendence, but trying to "schedule around NASCAR" is somehow a legitimate attendence issue???

Scheduling the game on a Sunday is an unnecessary bad idea. I wouldn't blame Marshall's attendance problems on the league. As a matter of fact, I think Marshall's attendance is pretty good compared with the rest of the league. I'm just saying that if it was up to Marshall, they would NEVER schedule a home game on a Wednesday or Sunday unless there was some kind of reason (like television) why it made sense. For years, they have asked the league to avoid Wednesday home games for the Herd. I'm not trying to make a big deal of it. It's just a little puzzling to me.

Wednesday, Saturday were the traditional MAC b-ball days until TV intevened in the 1990s.

I thought the end of year NCAA BB Playoff was supposed to offer the likes of the MAC more of a shot at a title.
