I have been listening to the whole 45 minute teleconference and only have a few minutes left to listen too.

It sounds like the BCS has a vision for this 5th bowl to be equal to the other 4 and be in the national championship rotation. There will not be a bowl game after all the other bowls to pit the top two teams.

The coalition (non-bcs schools) will have 3 times better chance of getting to a BCS bowl game, but nothing is guaranteed. The 5th BCS bowl game could be an upgrade of an existing bowl or a brand new bowl altogether.

There is no chance in the near future of a playoff in Division I college football.

Tulane's president said that there is no longer a BCS and non-bcs......all 117 I-A schools are part of the BCS and have a real shot at getting in a BCS bowl game. There will still be 6 conferences guaranteed an automatic bid as long as their conference champion finishes in the Top 12 in the BCS rankings.

The BCS has partnered with ABC for the other 4 bowls and they will go to them to finalize details on the 5th bowl game so they can't really give out any more details than this at this point.

The coalition asked the media to help them in getting everyone to understand that there are not two sides anymore. There is no longer a coalition because all 117 I-A schools are part of the BCS. They asked the media to no longer call them the coalition and to consider them part of the BCS.

This actually sounds like it has a lot of potential. I am really impressed.

This could be the key. Who says that the Big East champ will finish in the top 12? When was the last time Pitt, Cuse, WVU, or Louisville finished in the BCS top 12? If the Big East doesn't qualify in certain years, that will mean 5 at-large bids, giving the non-BCS schools an even greater chance of making it.
This is an overstatement, but what could happen is that a couple of the former non-BCS teams will get into a BCS game and get their butts kicked.

and then finally one will upset a former BCS and legitimacy will come to the former non-BCS teams.

This is essentially what happened in the AFL - NFL days - two lopsided games and then Joe Namath ushered in a new era of respect for the AFL.

BCS fans won't be able to say that their team was "looking ahead" to a conference game next week or some other reason to devalue the upset.

Respect will come after the first notable win by a Miami, Marshall, TCU, BYU, etc. over a marque program.
