Off the top of my head - the four I expect in the MAC semis some 363 days from now:

1). UT - good and young,
2). UB - on paper they should be the best in the East, but were they for real this year? (won't catch anyone sleeping next year).
3). KSU - Lose Edwards but picks up Gerwig + a great recruiting class to augment some talent losses.
4). EMU - should be the UB of '04/'05. Lose a starting SG ave. 3 ppg. Ton of new talent (sitouts James Matthews and Derek van Solkema) and recruits Nick Freer, super recruit Darryl Garrett (presumably eligible) and maybe Rico Harris (depending how it plays out). EMU might be the hardest team to place for next year. On paper they have a ton of potential.

Here's my quick stab at it.

1. Toledo
2. Kent State
3. Buffalo
4. Western Michigan
5. Bowling Green
6. Marshall
7. Ball State
8. Miami
9. Akron
10. Eastern Michigan
11. Central Michigan
12. Northern Illinois
13. Ohio
Marshall better than Miami and Ball U?

Isn't Ron Jirsa coming back as head coach?

Yes he is. And he's coming back with senior guards.

Marshall lost all three against Ball State and Miami this season. All three games came down to the last play. It's not as if Marshall is miles behind Miami and Ball State.

If we win MAC Titles in Fotball and Basketball, i bet that seals the rumor that we are heading to the big 10 03-wink
Our C-USA friends think that winning a MAC bball and FB championship (in the same academic year) are min. requirements to get one of those coveted C-USA invites.
My predictions in no particular order:

Toledo
Buffalo
Kent State
Bowling Green
I see three teams to beat in the MAC next year, only in alpha order at this point:

Buffalo - return all five starters. Lead by a PG named Battle - who could not be more appropriately named.
They bring height and bulk inside with Idbihi, Bortz and Atlman and outside shooters with Cage and Battle. Witherspoon seems to have won the team. Buffalo will be a force in the MAC next year.

Kent State - return the best starting talent in Haynes, Gerwig, Edwin and Cutley since the 2002 dream season. This year's team played with more heart than talent; if next year's team can match their heart- watch out. Kent may have the best recruiting class in memory, with two of the five All Detroit Preps League players on their way.

Toledo - return the last two frosh of the year. Great young talent in Ingram, Valencia, Villegas. Did I hear that Triplett was granted another year of eligibility on Fox Sports last Friday? If so, he's gotta be POY favorite. Toeldo may be the team to beat.

These three look to be the class of the MAC at this point. There are always sleepers and disappointments. Overall, the MAC looks to be a much deeper league next year.

I can't wait until November.
What I like about these 3 power teams is their newcomers, as mentioned.

UB adds Wallace Hall of Detroit Denby a very solid combo guard. He can play right away.

KSU's best recruit, according to recruiting analyst Vince Baldwin, is a kid from Indy, believe he is a SF. The two from Detroit, Knight (PF) and Crenshaw (PG) are really good, but the Indy kid might be better. This is a super, super recruiting class as indicated above.

That is a really complete class that can play next year.

I'm not sure what UT is doing recruiting wise, but they are very young.

Below is the info on KSU's IN recruit:

Mike Scott 6-6 Indianapoplis, IN - Kent State
Long armed slasher has a chance to be a stud in the MAC. Great potential!

He is the highest rated MAC recruit. EMU's Darryl Garrett (SG) and KSU's Isaac Knight are close.

Trip has said that he will play another season for UT. The University fully expects that he will be granted another year of eligibility.

If Triplett plays another year, I think UT is the fave to win it all. You can NEVER count out Kent....never.

BGSU should have a contending team....SHOULD have. We thought that this year also.
Buffalo could be on to something big!

I can wait for hoops at this point....especially after the disappointing season we had! 03-banghead Spring football is almost here!!! BG starts practice this Thur!! 04-rock

GO FALCONS!!!! 04-rock

I have been casually following Scott this season. You may have stole one right out from under our noses. His numbers don't really jump out at you (15 ppg & 8.8 reb) but his size and athleticism are impressive. He plays along side another D1 recruit (Wesley Clemmons - Southern Illinois) so he wasn't the focus of the offense.

Thanks for the link on Scott. Sounds like he is quite a steal.
I think since Miami loses its only scorer in Juby next year we will be forced to play at a slower pace and make it an even uglier game. 03-wink

Thanks for the link. Sounds like and outstanding young man and I can see why Kent recruited him. Solid player, solid student, solid person. Generally, that's the Flash model.

If I remember correctly, WMU loses a lot of players so I would move them down a couple notches and move BSU up a couple notches. I also think you ranked us a little too high. I would move us down one spot. 03-wink

WMU's coach will keep them near the top.

NIU will not be last. O'Shea will complete the transformation of the Bobkitties from contenders to dead last cellar dwellers this season. You can take that to the bank. And some thought it couldn't be done.
Looks like Kent will be on top for years to come, great recruiting class to go with the last 2. Picking Kent anything but first is a mistake in my opinion. Its true that Kent didnt have the best talent this year. Winning becomes habit though and this school loves our basketball team. Looking forward to November, this group can match the 2002 success of Huffman and co. 04-drinky

OShea is still 4-2 against Stupid Cow.
