I just want to say that I finally went to a bar in the city since the start of the smoking ban and I loved it. It was great to breath fresh air all evening/night and go home and not keel over from the smoke smell in my clothes and hair. I also talked to some others about it and they liked it too. Even the smokers.

Of course this was a college bar, The Ale House, so I was speaking to students. Students seem to be a little bit more liberal and accepting of these type things.

Speaking of the Ale House, pretty cool bar right next to campus. They had some really nice Rocket murals painted on the ways. I liked the look and had a great time.

GO ROCKETS
yay! we get to go on this ride again!
Good thing king bob isn't around.............. 03-wink

Dang you liburools sure take pleasure in denying a man his pleshures in life...not to mention his constitooshunal rites! When I want to fire up a stogie, swill beer and grope women who are passing by, then dagnabit, that's what I'm going to do! Rush said I could! Now, pass the oxycontin. What? It's LEGAL and well within my rights...

Oh, and the Rockets are going to win the national championship this year! WOOOHOOOOOO!!! Yeah, baby!

If that doesn't lure him out of hiding, send out a search party for the body. :D

Personally, I like to get as many perspectives as possible.

That doesn't appear to be a very unbiased perspective, Jeff. In fact, just the opposite. Even a cursory glance shows it blaming Jack Ford for problems that are rooted in national politics, and has some very questionable "facts and figures" throughout. I'm all for being anti-Blade and for holding local politicians accountable, but a little reality needs to be one of the ingredients. Someone there has an ax to grind, and isn't too particular how they go about it, imo. FWIW, these same doom and gloom articles appeared early on with respect to New York's smoking ban. The latest figures show a completely different picture, however. Smoking bans invariably turn out to be a boon for any city that implements one. Simple mathematics make it inevitible. Toledo has more people who smoke than most cities, and the percentage is still below 40, I believe.
Rush Limbaugh may be a big fat idiot but if you obtain all your information from the Communist News Network you end up using sig pics of people whose photos have been doctored to make thier noses look larger than they actually are. If you take in information from many alternative sources you may gleen a modicum of the truth. I don't smoke and I don't go to bars. I will not start going to bars because there is now a smoking ban so this doesn't effect me. Most people I know who are like me feel there should be a compromise or the citizens should be given an opportunity to vote on the issue. When proponents of the ban sarcastically suggest a smoking ban in carryouts to put a police presence in those businesses, it's indicative that resources are being wasted on enforcement. Even if you and i don't agree on that, we at least can agree that the UT football team is going to have a great season and that it's great to be a Rocket fan. Anybody who puts as much into a web site for our favorite team as you do is alright in my book. :D

Actually, I probably visit more news sources a day than most folks do in a month. I just find that particular one biased and attempting to make points by twisting facts. Glad to see my icon doing it's intended job, though. :D

You're right, though...we're in 100% agreement about the Rockets. Also, thanks for starring on the front page of the site.
1. Why stop at smoking? Cars kill people... we should ban all cars...

2. We should ban all fatty foods at fast foods... they make people fat and give them heart disease...

3. Why don't we post a armed soldier at every bar, so you liberal nazis can panzifiy an american institution... like, getting drunk and beating the crap out of little democrat wimps...

4. Why don't you just go rip the constitution up... go pull hitler out of his house in Argentina and tell him he is wanted in the United State.. (he put a NO smoking ban in the german country)

5. Sorry, but I believe in the United States Constitution and the Rights of property owners... guess y'all failed history class..
Cars don't kill people on purpose. Nicotine does.

Fatty foods might kill people, but not 2nd hand people...only the person eating it. Smoking kills 2nd hand people that don't want the smoke. Therefore, a smoking ban in public places so innocent people don't die.

Bars and other restaurants have the right to include an enclosed smoking section. That is their right, not allowing others to be killed that don't want to because there is no enclosed smoking section.

Please provide which part of the Constitution you're referring to? 03-lol

George is working on these things as we type. See: Patriot Act, The

Probably oughta relay THIS thought to George too. Seems more concerned with protecting executive priveledge than the Constitution.

There, that oughta liven things up a bit :D

I assume what Kingbob means is that a person who owns a business and would like to allow his/her patrons to smoke on his/her property, he/she can't. What I dislike is the dishonesty of ban proponents. It isn't about health it's about nuisance. People just don't like thier clothes smelling of smoke and thier eyes burning. That's what it's truely about but that isn't enough to get a law passed so they scew the variables in an experiment to get the results they want. If you drink enough water it will throw your electrolytes out of whack and kill you, if you don't drown first. Should we ban water? If it's truely about health no one should be allowed to smoke anywhere. Personally, I think smoking is stupid. It's costly and increases the likelihood of disease. It's also highly addictive and any little benefit of pleasure at the beginning is extremely outweighed by costs in the end. An occasional cigar may be the exception. Jack Ford was able to give some good advice to Columbus because he did everything wrong here in Toledo. So much has been spent on enacting and enforcing draconian antismoking legislation that the ally behind my house is filthy. I'd rather the money be spent keeping the litter picked up. And I do pick up as much as I can but there is quite a bit of illegal dumping that people do. That's a law I'd like to see enforced. I'd suggest going to the site, "The Mental Block" for an alternative perspective but that site was taken down because someone with a big ego and a little ***** didn't like it. I just wonder how the Pulitzer commitee views censorship.
Florida enacted no smoking in restaurants over a year ago. I've heard nothing but good things from people.

The difference b/t here and Toledo from what I understand.......is that Toledo is completely no smoking. In Florida, you can have smoking as long as less than 50 % of your revenue comes from food.........so...........bars and clubs.....smoking is allowed.

Frankly.....I wish the bars and clubs were non-smoking.......I'd go out and shoot pool a lot more if my eyes didn't start watering and my clothes didn't smell like an ashtray.

For all those who are upset about the law.........here's a thought...........how about you use this as a good excuse to quit smoking?
For me its about health more than nuisance. My grandfather had 2 major surgeries because of it. My wife's grandmother is dying from cancer right now because of it. I know others that have died from cancer because of smoking.
