EMU fans will know John Fountain, the long-time radio voice of Eastern football and basketball. Fountain also served the athletic department in several capacities over the years including being SID. Fountain has authored a book tracing EMU's move from NAIA to NCAA Div I and admission to the MAC during the 1970s and other important events in EMU athletic history. It is titled, "A View from the Booth to the Board Room: Eastern Michigan University Athletics from the PAC to the MAC".

Fountain wrote this book as a fund raiser for sportscaster scholarships at EMU so it is not available at the local book store. Copies will be sent to anyone contributing $25 or more to the scholarship fund. Contributions should be made out to EMU Sportscasters Scholarship and sent to:

WEMU
PO Box 980350
Ypsilanti, MI 48198.
Good info Dexter Eagle!

John Fountain is a great guy and this book should be a really good read. If anybody remembers the last big push EMU had to boost attendance several years back, it was Fountain who was a major mover and shaker behind the "Eastern Energy" campaign that was so successful. Also, anybody who wants to have a better understanding of EMU athletics' history and read some great anecdotes should get their hands on "A View From the Booth to the Board Room." 04-bow
What is/was the "PAC?"

The Presidents Athletic Conference which EMU was a member of from 1964-1965. Other schools in the conference were John Carroll; Alleghany; Wayne State and Case Western Reserve.

The PAC is still around.

Interesting, I never knew EMU was in that conference. I do know about CMU and EMU's membership in the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the 1950s and 60s though. Other members included NIU, WIU, EIU, and Illinois State.

FIRE UP CHIPS! :)

All the information I posted, including the zip, came from"The Edge" magazine from the EMU Alumni Relations Office. I hope it is accurate. I've already sent my contribution and am anxiously waiting for Fountain's book to arrive.
