I read somewhere it had to do with the Ball mason jar company. Is that true??

Also who is Marshall named after?
Yes, it is named after the same Ball family that makes the jars.

Marshall is named after Supreme Court Justice, John Marshall.
Marshall is named after John Marshall, the one time Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
I'm pretty sure that BSU was originally called Indiana Normal, and was mostly known for Education degrees at that time. The Ball family gave the University some big bucks, which helped the school "morph" into a much larger school. Although Muncie is kind of a gritty town, the campus at BSU is very nice.......lotsa red brick and recent buildings.

The very 1st Supreme Court Chief Justice.
EcK is close. The Ball family actually donated the land to the state of Indiana in 1918 to start the university. And yes, they are the same family that started the mason jar manufacturing company.

You'll still find several restaurants in the Muncie area that serve their beverages in Ball jars as a nod to local history...

John Jay was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Marshall was the 4th.
So Kent, Ball St. BGSU were all "normal schools." Am I forgetting any from the MAC?

Until the early `50s, EMU was Michigan State Normal College. The name was changed "to reflect the larger mission of the university" (or something like that) after MSU became a university. Two Michigan States both wearing green and white was getting too confusing.

You can find several locations in WV that serve drinks from a mason jar. You just better be careful drinking it or you can go blind. 03-wink
Those guys in the movie "Days of Thunder" (a.k.a. Top Car) seemed to like it.
