You’re killing me Bucknuts!!!!

I subscribe to your publication, but it's for recruiting data and not much more. You do a great job and I often wish you would cover the athletes that commit to MAC schools, but seeing your responses here, I guess I now know why once a quality player commits to a MAC school, they drop off of the radar screen and are now considered irrelevant by many publications.

My biggest beef is the attitude of Ohio State fans, many of which did not even go to college, and if they did, not Ohio State. Hey, I am proud to be from the state of Ohio, but I am a ROCKET BABY!!!!!!! And damn proud of it.

For football, look how BG almost won the game last year at Ohio St. The Buckeyes have a terrific program now under Tressell, but so does Toledo under Amstutz and several other MAC schools with their respective coaching staffs. We kick Penn State's tail, Purdue's tail, and Minnesota's tail and local Buckeye fans say "who cares, we root for the Big Ten, and you can't beat us anyway."

Ohio State has by far the best facilities, but look at Toledo's minute athletic budget and the success we have and all Buckeye fans should admire our efficiency to do more with so much less.

I've never understood how a school like Ohio State can always look down their snoots at a quality school and sports program like Toledo. I guess that fuels my fire against Ohio State even more.

Look at your pathetic men's basketball program. Your coach and AD refuse to play in-state teams like Cincy, Xavier, Dayton, Toledo, etc. This past year, OSU basketball was likely the 6th or 7th best team in state, yet Buckeye fans believe they are still #1 in Ohio.

I'm sorry, as I get older; I root more and more against Ohio State, the Big Ten, and all BCS schools.

By the way, have I mentioned GOOOOOOOOOO RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent post Nick!

04-cheers
I didn't know Vandelay was a Rocket Fan, I sorta just htought he was a MAC fan xD

I don't think this guy ahs any association with Bucknuts the magazine or website. I think he just likes the name.
Great post...I find that my dislike of OSU grows as I get older as well. Speaking of OSU looking down their noses at other state schools...I spent the summer after graduation working at a sports training facility in Columbus. I wore my Toledo Football sweatshirt to work one day and it was noticed by one of the kids who was taking batting lessons at the center. The kid made a comment to his Father (Who was decked out head to toe in OSU gear) as I walked by regarding that I must have played ball at Toledo. As soon as I pass, I hear the Father let out a sarcastic sigh and say something to the effect that "Toledo is a joke." Unfortunately, I neded the job at the time...otherwise I would have ripped this guy apart. Turns out this clowns name was Larry Romanoff, who I believe is OSU's director of compliance. Another fine example of the OSU football department.

Go Rockets!
Your post subtitle reminded me of the Elephant Man.

"I am not an animal! I am a human being!"

Great Post.... I find the dislike in Ohio state too as I get order as well. It makes me so mad when people make fun of Toledo or any other MAC school.

One more thing GO RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROCKETS!!!!
Hey Rocket Band Guy,

I was also a member of the UT Marching & pep bands from 1984-87. Played in the percussion section and the drum set respectivley. Sadly, you guys play many of the same songs we did back then, and the same songs my brother player played in the late 1970s.

Please have the band director buy the CD "jock jams" and learn a few of those songs. Also, watch the movie Drum Line and learn some cool half-time shows. I loved being in the band, but we were not very good during those years. Also, why not play the theme of "Rocky" in honor of our mascot? That would be cool.

I have a few other suggestions in case you think if might do any good.

PS: Why not have our dancing Rockettes really be a thing of beauty. Get a good dance instrutor, play more modern music, have these girls have height and wight requirements, tight outifts, and really have a jewel of a dancing unit that fans would love.

That's my take.

If it was the Larry Romanoff I knew from Toledo, it is understandable why he has this attitude. He is living in the past. When he grew up in Toledo,UT was known as Bancroft High. Larry lived about one and ahalf miles from the UT campus. He graduated from high school just as the Chuck Ealey era was beginning. Larry became a student FB manager at tOSU and was known as Woody's boy.Because of his background Larry is blind to some great Rocket teams and is living in the old Bancroft High days. The University was about 25 years old when Larry graduated from high school, it is now about 60 years old and has grown greatly. That was then, this is now! 3 yards and a cloud of dust is gone.Archie G.is not on that SI preseason Heisman watch, but Bruce G. is!
So if you see Larry remind him of what year it is.

He must be pretty old then! 03-lol Last time I checked UT was founded in 1872. The Bancroft campus opened in 1931 with the construction of University Hall.

One of the reasons the RMB doesn't play those types of songs is that the past director wanted "quality" music and in his opinion the music you get on "jock jams" is not quality. The most peppy he got at football games was the first down cheer. Under the direction of Dr. Karrick, the RMB would have never been heard playing the "Hey Song" even though it was requested at almost every game. He was much more of a quality director as opposed to pop music although he did throw in a couple of pop songs every once in a while. some of the reasons you hear the same songs is that Dr. Karrick was a huge fan of the bands of the 70's so back when you were in the band that is what was popular. He wrote almost everything we played and in my opinion it was the most quality music I have ever played. There is a new director coming in this year so you may be in for a change this season. No one is really sure what to expect (but I have heard the guy they are looking at is actually a BG grad).

As for the Rocky thing, when the current Rocky was unveiled, we did an entire half time show in tribute to him... The movie Drumline was a great movie unfortunately I don't know anyone in the University of Toledo who would have the talent to teach 180 people with limited "dancing" skills how to do a halftime show like those bands. What you have to realize is that those bands are Show bands and the halftime shows are just warm ups for them.... As much fun as they are to watch they generally don't have the quality of sounds the RMB usually puts out. Check out an OU halftime show sometime.. I think their band spends more time on the ground rolling around then they do actually playing music. If that's what you want I don't know that you will get it at UT.

Refering to UT as University on Bancroft, not the trade school it originally was.
