From a thread on the Sun Belt Forum:

Quote:It should not be long before we are equal to the WAC, CUSA we will surpass when the Big East takes their best teams and leaves the likes of SMU and Rice, then we close in on the MAC.

Do these guys realize that you have to win some OOC games and get at least 1 team ranked in the Top 25 before you can think about closing in on the MAC? 03-lol

Interesting that THEY view CUSA as an obstacle on the way to catching the MAC!
No, most sunbelt fans are idiots. They think the Sun Belt is such a good conference. The only reason they think this is because no team in the Sun Belt is used to being very much except for WKU. We know how bad the Sunbelt sucks. Fans at other schools seem to critisize us all the time because we think we are better than the other teams in the Sun Belt. When honsetly I think most years we are head and shoulders above most of the SBC. There are a few teams like MTSU, ULL, and NMSU that are good teams. But outside of that the rest of the league isn't too much. We are the only team in the Sun Belt who ever gets in the Top 25. Atleast in several years to my knowledge. Most of the teams haven't even gotten a Top 25 vote in a decade or so, if ever.

Don't listen too much to the fans on the Sun Belt message boards. If you were on the SBC board I bet you noticed there weren't very many WKU fans on there. Now you know why.

Hey, the MAC is a solid, regional conference. Take is as a huge compliment that the SBC respects your position. You have not always been in that position. I think the MAC is a good model for the SBC to follow.

BTW, SBC fans are great fans except for a few dim-witted weasels that post comments like those above, eh?
:D

I agree with rojo...

The Sunbelt truly sucks. At the time, it was better than the OVC for us in Bball, but then most of the good teams left and we got this crazy geographically nightmarish conference.

No one at WKU even cares about Denver. Conferences need to have some sort of alignment. That is why so many at WKU see the MAC as being a very good alternative to what we are currently cursed with.

I still believe the MAC deal is in the works. It was just announced that our Board of Regents approved a 35 million dollar "renovation" to Smith Stadium. You don't spend 35 million on just a face lift.

I read elsewhere on the boards that MTSU spent 25 million to go from 17,000 to 30,000 capacity. Could the same be in the works for WKU? Furthermore, why would WKU approve 35 million for our football stadium if we were planning to stay 1-AA. Something sure smells fishy.

My guess is that just like other schools in other conferences, we are denying the deal until the ink dries. Then we will proclaim our love for the MAC!!

Certainly something is going on.....I just can't wait much longer to find out what it is!
Maybe WKU is considering going I-A in the Sun Belt.

I can assure you that the Sunbelt is not an option for us in 1-A.

Why don't you Hilltopper fans post this garbage on the Sun Belt board? Don't you got any balls, punks? Why do you have to run off to some other conference's messageboard and bash a conference that has no ties with this conference.

I think all you Hilltopper fans are just pissed because:

1. Your football program isn't WORTH 1-A material

2. Your basketball teams (both men and women) got their @sses kicked by Middle Tennessee State in the Sun Belt tournament this year indicating that Western no longer owns this conference!

3. You now sit behind MTSU and North Texas in the Sun Belt Conference All-Sports Trophy standings in which your school stands to lose the title for the first time since 2001 when MTSU took it!

4. People, mostly Western Kentucky fans, spread ridiculous conference realignment rumors involving WKU in hoping that a bunch of saps will actually believe this crap no matter how far-flung these ding-dong scenarios are such as the CUSA and MAC rumors!

Come on', Little Red Hilltoppers! You sure do like to bash a conference that is showing your school just how good you ain't! Why don't you post this ***** on the Sun Belt boards so the fans of the schools you are bashing will have a chance to defend themselves and tell you how much of a jack****** you are!!

OK, time to take to take the non-MAC feuding elsewhere.
We have our own feuds to take care of.
I like the Sun Belt Conference. They are behind the MAC in terms of talent but it is a nice league that like all non-BCS conferences is trying to keep their heads above water. I wish them well; maybe will pick up LaTech in the short term.

The biggest problem the SBC has had in football is that they have "over-scheduled." Too often SBC teams are playing multiple OOC games against SEC & Big 12 teams. The SBC needs to soften their non-conference schedules more with WAC & C-USA teams, along with some MAC teams when geographically feasible (like the MTSU/Akron series). It's by building some nice résumé’s with good non-conference wins that a conference earns more respect, not market size or ballooned athletic budgets.

With that said, I would certainly love to see MTSU & WKU become MAC members in the near future.

I agree. These childish Hilltopper fans need to get a grip on reality:

Hilltoppers play in the 1-AA Missouri Valley!!

Actually, I think axeme was talking to you.

Again, it isn't the Missouri Valley. It is the Gateway, which may be run out of the Missouri Valley offices but includes a mix of I-AA teams.
I think this is what Rojogrande was talking about in his thread. Sorry to waste your bandwidth MAC fans.

Well BlueRaiderPride...you've proven you don't know much about football conferences.

WKU does not play in the Missouri Valley. They play in the Gateway...which coincidentally did rank above the Sun Belt, but behind the MAC for football in 2004 according to the Massey Ratings....oh yeah, WKU also ranked 26 spots ahead of MTSU on the list. At 100, that would have put us somewhere in the middle of the MAC, but towards the top of the Sun Belt (North Texas was highest at 68, followed by soon to be conference member Troy St. at 95).

All of this is said to keep things in perspective. If we are going to have a war between MTSU and WKU, then we do need to take it over to the Sun Belt board. However, I don't see how anyone can blame WKU fans for wanting to get into a better conference if/when we make the move to I-A football.

Now that I've said my piece, I'll try to keep the non-MAC feuding to a minimum unless someone chooses to attack WKU...then, well, I'll defend it much as you guys would to for your schools. Now let's get back to some discussion about things that we KNOW are going to happen! 04-cheers
You guys got a good laugh when LaTech and UNT took over the CUSA board.....reap it...lol.
MUther Wrote:You guys got a good laugh when LaTech and UNT took over the CUSA board.....reap it...lol.
I don't think these guys could be as annoying as the LaTech and North Texas fans! :D
Your absolutely right rideORDieTOP. This is exactly what I was talking about. I have a membership to the SBC board. Whenever I post anything on there that has to do with WKU no matter what it is they bite your head off. And also notice the point in reference I made in my previous post that they aren't used to being much. You see how BlueRaiderPrides references and accomplishments against us all happened this year with a new coach and new system in place. He has to use those as his little comebacks because he has nothing else.

Also, If i am correct I believe the last win WKU had over a 1A opponent was against MTSU. 03-nutkick

OK, I have defended WKU so I won't start a non-MAC argument. Personnaly I don't understand why a MTSU fan got all upset because I said they were one of the better teams in th Sun Belt, and WKU fans have been advocating all along that we would like to see MTSU go to the MAC with us if we go.
