I'm having a little fun with the UT post, but if you can get a Vegas bookie to give you some odds on the EMU season and offense take them.

From what I understand from the local Ann Arbor media is that EMU just might have an exciting offense ala the '95 season and the Batch years.

Genyck's spread offense is perfect for EMU. The spread offense is a RUNNING offense. It is designed to guess what, spread, the defense all over the place and open up the inside for a sophisticated running game (e.g., lot of traps). This is a 50-50 offense. It is NOT 60 - 70% pass.
It is also a no huddle offense designed to keep the D off guard. It typically doesn't have a TE, but uses 3 WRs on one side and one on the other.

Guess what? EMU returns Anthony Sherrill and virtually their entire offensive line. The QB will most likely be Iowa transfer Matt Bohnet. Jeff Crooks, injured in the first game last year, might also beat out last year's final starter, Ken Bohnet (the QB who started most of the games is no longer on the team - he was booted in that ugly off campus incident in Jan. (?). The biggest ? is do we have the right WRs to block.

Genyck, as I understand it, was the architect of it at Northwestern and they used it very, very successfully against Michigan and others. Genyck's Off. Coor. was an asst coach at Northwestern last year.

That offense did very well against BG as I remember in the last Motor City Bowl... The NU RB rushed for something like almost 300 yards. NU had terrible QBing though.

Go Green!!
Might add if we had "Bruce Almighty" (or equivalent) we might have the best offense in the MAC.

WR need be an issue, but I'm anxious to see Matt Bohnet run this offense.

Excitement is high in Ypsi.

There are several teams in this conference that would be the best offense in the MAC if they had Bruce. 03-wink

After watching Council this Spring I feel that our backup this year is much more talented than Stevens was.
i think council is a much better passer than stevens was. is much faster too. that kid can run like a reciever.

I think Stevens will light it up down at UT-Chattanooga.
He is superior to what most UT fans thought.
H was lured away from a scholarship offer at WVU to come to Toledo based on the idea he would be the starter but never truly got a shot. Bruce was the choice from the word go regardless of the "competition" in spring ball that season.
Anyway, good luck in Tennesee cedric.

Of the times I saw Stevens play I was not impressed by him. Of course he never got to start any games at UT but he did see quality playing time the past 2 years. The only game I thought he looked decent in was the 02 game against Eastern up in Ypsi, an everyone who got playing time in that game looked decent. I dont know if anyone else saw it but in the UNLV game when Cedric was in he looked like he didn't have a clue with what play was supposed to be run which got Astin Martin pretty upset, so upset that Astin was shouting at him on the field before he called a timeout. What was the deal with that? Isn't the qb supposed to be the leader in the huddle?

Sorry Owen, but I don't buy that. If Stevens wasn't able to convince the coaches that he was the best bet for last year's starting QB spot, that's no one's fault but his (if there's any fault to be placed).

EMUSteve, it sounds like your new spread is somewhat similar to UTs. Believe it or not, UT runs very close to a 50/50 mix between the pass and run. We DO use a TE a lot, but he's used many times as a big slot back, like you'd use a fullback. Sometimes, the way the players get spread around, it's hard to really give them a position label that fits the traditional positions...just part of the "spreading it out and keeping the D guessing", I guess. Good luck with it. It will certainly be fun to watch.

Funny, I don't recall at time when I didn't see Astin Martin's gums flapping at someone.

I'm not buying it either. I saw Stevens get equal reps in practice leading up to the season, I also saw Gradkowski play at a much higher level than Stevens at all times. Best of luck to the kid, but he'd be 3rd or 4th best on the current UT roster.
To summarize, every Toledo fan here believes that UT has the best offense among all the Michigan MAC schools.

Maybe Ohio won that border war after all.
I havent seen Eastern play at all but I will have to say they wont have the best offense in the Michigan MAC this year. I am not even going to say WMU will have it either. My bet is on Central. The way their coach this year threw the ball around at Grand Valley last year, I will take them. That is under the assumption he can get all of their offense in.

We get the best Michigan players of any MAC school. 04-rock
Gotta love that in-state recruiting.

How many points are you guys spotting the Lions? (After all, Bruce appears to be the most unstoppable football force since Ditka.)

Spotting the Lions? Well, our defense isn't great but Harrington tends to throw a lot of INT's so I think we can spot them 21 points. 03-wink

You'd be better off trying to get us to spot the Redforeskinhawks some points this season.
No thanks. It will be a lot more fun beating Da Bruce straight up.

Forget about that, what's important is that you kick the excrement out of Marshall again. 03-nutkick
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Indiana State comes first. Can you say "Screaming Trees"?
