Seriously.

Miami (OH) now has had practice time for a bowl game and an early start to the season. They are more experienced than ever with several returning players.

Meanwhile, Mich replaces both their QB and RB from last season. Of course they will have good recruits...

BUT,

Just like the NIU vs 'Bama match-up from last season had alot of arrows pointing to NIU, I think this game points to Miami.

They'll need a lead to overcome the officiating, but I'm going to predict: Miami 31- Mich 29. (W/ plenty of 2-pt conversion attempts.)

Easy Doc

I think Miami definitely has potential and will be good, first off. But ISU and Michigan are not the same animal or even species. Miami's win was impressive but Miami fans have talked a little nervous over some QB issues, OL issues, some short-field advantages that aren't likely to occur against Michigan.
It is not impossible for them to win but I wouldn't go s so far as to predict it. I saw some fans saying he their QB was skittish and unpredictable under pressure. He will be under pressure with an OL that has trouble opening run holes. And the refs will not be friendly.

PS is Miami going to get the benefit of instant replay or is that only Big Ten conference games?
In Big Ten OOC games, the visiting team (to a Big Ten's home field) decides whether replay will be used. No idea whether Miami chose to, but I sure as hell would.

A couple things that have to be noted about NIU's wins over BCS conference opponents - none had playmaking talent on the outside....excellent WRs. Michigan's are excellent. That concerns me a bit.

I think Miami can make an excellent game out of it. I'm concerned how Betts will react on the big stage against what is sure to be a stout D in his face.

Miami may keep it close in the first quarter, but look for Michigan and their depth to wear on the redhawks.JMO

Michigan 34

Miami 13

Don't you think Michigan's *brand new* starting QB will have the same issues?

Especially playing in front of 110K people who expect an easy 'W'.

Michigan hasn't been dominant for several years now. Miami's last couple of games against them have been close. This time, Miami's team has more experience, and probably talent, than ever before.

Their biggest liability is Hoeppner.

The MACC and 2 bowl games are helping this conference. This game has a good shot of hammering home that fact once again.

Besides, if I'm wrong, y'all will forget about it in a few days, and chalk it up to me looking for some cheap heat. If I'm right, I'll get to flaunt it forever.
come on guys, that was a really crappy 1-AA team, and it looks like if anyone gets hurt on offense, then the second team is not up to par, especially against a descent 1-A team. Read the post game report before you make all these assumptions.

i predict a blow out at michigan in the wolverines favor and close games against OU and Cincy before coming to huntington.
Two quick thoughts:

(1) Instant replay will be used in ALL Big Ten vs. MAC games this year. Rick Chryst bear-hugged the idea and volunteered all of our OOC matchups as ways to help them work out the kinks in the system. 03-wink

(2) Miami fans tend not to be woofers (to put it mildly). While there certainly are areas to work on in practice this week, I've got to think Coach Hoeppner feels pretty good about what the team accomplished on Saturday.
The MU - UM discussion is back again......

Yes, the RedHawks had a dominating 49-0 performance against the Indiana State Sycamores, and I realize that you have a dangerous PR that could've had 3 TDs as opposed 1 due to penalties....... I know it was 42-0 at the Half.

If read the players' comments on Michigan's football page you'll notice how much respect the UM players have for the RedHawks.

If Miami OH is to still be in the game by the 4th quarter, the following must happen:

1. The MU WRs must beat the UM DBs (this is about evenly matched with Marlin Jackson back at CB along with returning starter Markus Curry, Leon Hall at NB who had 2 INTs v Purdue, Ernest Shazor at SS who was all-BigTen last year, and the relative weak link Ryan Mundy at FS going against Nance and Larkin).

2. The MU front7 must be able to hold the UM RBs to <3 ypc and put pressure on Gutz. Considering the size/depth difference between UM's OL/FB/TE and MU's front7 I don't think they can do that.

3. The MU OLine must be able to pass-block..... Nance and Larkin won't get too much production if the OLine can't stop Watson and Harrison from coming up the middle and Woods, Woodley, and Manning from the outside.

4. The MU DBs must hold UM to <250 yards passing........ it will be a long day otherwise.

I think it will be 38-13 in the end.

4 days, 17 hours, and 16 minutes.........
Not to be a downer, but won't those replay boths be run by B10 offecials?

No.

Q. Who are the Technical Advisors?
A. Technical Advisors are former college and/or NFL officials who observe, evaluate and rate game officials' performances and mechanics during games. They report and are rated and evaluated by Dave Parry, the coordinator of officials.

Jim" Mad Dog"Mandich who was an All American TE at Mich, and whose son is a current Wolverine, mentioned the win over ISU and felt it would be a tight ballgame on his afternoon radio show 560WQAM

MiamiU was supposed to blow out Indiana State. And they did that in fine fashion, which leads me to believe they'll be a contender in the East Division as most are expecting.

Had they struggled with Indiana St I would of given them zero shot of beating Michigan, but now I think it will be competitive.

Is MUther and other Marshall fans willing to apply their logic on the UM-MiamiU game for the OSU-Marshall or UGA-Marshall games? 9 out of 10 fans think Marshall is going to beat OSU and UGA on the Herd websites.

Is this at all realistic thinking?
I agree with everything Michifan said except for the final score... all very keen observations, and if anything determines the game more then who wins in the trenches that I am not sure. Even the best backs in the world cannot get through holes without them being opened by linemen.

I wont make a prediction, but I think we will see another great Miami vs. Michigan game.

Kit-Kat, do you have any clue of what you are talking about??

Most herd fans think we have a shot at OSU for one big reason, they are sorta in a rebuild phase. We do not think we have much of a shot against UGA, I have no clue where you read that. We are coming back almost all intact without having to break in a new QB and playing someone who is down by the standards they set a few years back (OSU). This is not the same situation as the UM-MU game. I hope miami gives them a game, but I just don't see it happening with a new Qb and a mean Michigan defense shaking him up.

You really have no clue Kit-Kat.
For what its worth....

Upper echelon MAC team can generally compete with top-tier BCS programs at the skill positions, but suffer in the trenches. The defensive front sevens for these teams have an incredible blend of size and speed, that usually tip the scales in their favor over the course of a 60 minute game.

I think Miami will hang with Michigan, and keep it interesting, but to win "all the stars will have to align."

Marshall may have the appearances of a closer game w/ OSU due to the Buckeyes propensity for low scoring contests, but the end result will, in all likliehood, be a loss for the same reasons outlined above.

Both Miami and Marshall's biggest challenge will to come out of these games "healthy" - this is probably a bigger challenge for Marshall as they play both OSU and UGA back-to-back. Both these teams (as well as Michigan) play extremely physical football - we've all seen/experienced how a critical injury can affect the chase for the MAC title.
I am coming up from Atlanta to see the game. I think Miami is real good, but not ready to take the Wolverines in Ann Arbor. I see the score something like 31 to 10!!

Exactly. The other thing is the depth of the Offensive & Defensive Lines of the bigger schools. They rotate 2 & 3 deep the whole game. This is why a lot of the Bigger BCS schools "pull away" in the 4th Qtr. They can rotate these linemen the whole game. Most Mac Schools have a good first string, but the drop-off is considerable after that. They are tired by the last part of the game. Get an injury early in the game........and there is a major problem.

I sincerely hope that Miami "shocks" Michigan. This will only fuel the BCS debate even further. Good Luck on all non-mac games........With all the "mac" games......I hope you tank. :D
A lesser, but still good, Miami team battled Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1995, losing 38-19. One would think this Redhawk team will surrender fewer points than that. The game Miami needs to remember is last year's Iowa game though. They can't make mistakes.
Miami beats the a I-AA door mat of the Gateway Conference and now you think they play Mich. close ??

Miami will be good, but give it a rest. Pray you don't come home injured & beat up with your paycheck. Michigan 42-14.
What is it, Paladin? Do you have some radar that lets you know anytime a Gateway School is mentioned on this site. Nobody is talking about Indiana State joining the MAC, so go crawl back into your treasure chest filled with great Youngstown State memories.
