I just went to UCF's kick-off luncheon and the MC was Lee Corso. He told the story of how he came to live in Central Florida. He said he was the coach @ NIU and was freezing his tail off in -45 degree weather when he got a call from Don Dizney telling him about a job opening in Orlando to coach the Renegades in the USFL. Lee asked what the weather was like in Orlando and Don told him it was 80...Lee said, I'm there and he left for Orlando.

I never knew he coached NIU...what were the years like when he was there? He actually was terrible today as the MC. His timing was off and he kept seeming to get lost in the middle of his stories...perhaps a little too much 04-drinky before he made his way over! All in all, the luncheon was great though as 150 companies purchased tables for the event! O'Leary was very impressed and he was a great speaker, contrary to Corso.

Anyway, good luck with the Terps this weekend...hope you beat them down again! Hope to meet some of you in Orlando in October...let me know if you're coming and I'll tell you where I tailgate and treat you to some brews and brats!!

Lee Corso spent one uninspired year in DeKalb after being fired from Indiana, where, ironically, is the place Bill Mallory left NIU to join. It was clear from the start that Corso didn't really want to be in DeKalb. He left after one year to become head coach of the Florida franchise in the new USFL. Nobody in DeKalb ever got to know the shuckster. Nobody ever missed him either.

Corso was perhaps the worst thing ever in DeKalb, and I include manure and corn rot in that comparison. It figures that his little wimp ****** couldn't take the cold. Maybe if we would have had a man for a coach, we could have done some good things despite him.
He only coached 9 games and lived in the stadium. We really got duped with him

As bad as Lee Corso was (and boy was he bad...there was actually a rumor making the rounds that he phoned in from out of town for practices and didn't show up in Dekalb until game day...I don't actually believe that one), Charlie Sadler was ten times worse. Talk about not wantng to really be in DeKalb and running a program completely into the ground. Jeez those were bad years.

When some of the younger crowd on this board fixates on why NIU should go "big time," I wish they had the wisdom of the post Bill Mallory years. They were some of the most awful years any college football program in the nation ever has had to endure. And all under the guise of going "big time."

Tell you what.. the names Lee Corso and Charlie Sadler bring up very bad memories...I need to go to the bathroom and zook. Be back in 10. 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke 03-puke

Hmmmm...I like how alum reads really well, because I think all the times he thinks someone is saying big time, the rest of us are just saying we have to jump off a sinking ship (the MAC).

If you don't think the MAC will sink thats fine, but a lot of people didn't think the titanic would either.

That is where you are wrong, When you say leave the MAC alum hears, "Pretend we are Notre Dame".

He hears what he wants and argues points with himself that aren't even brought up. He argued for a month with no one that haldi will be the starter.
Funny thing is that Corso stood on the NIU sideline at last year's Bowling Green game and was welcomed with a round of Boos. I guess we finally got some closure!
The highlight of the Bowling Green game last year was when Corso walked past the NIU fans to say hi to Collins on the field, and we all booed him.
