...were you missing 3 starters on the O-line for the Troy game?

And if so, why are you so surprised that Troy's defensive line handled you guys?

Very few schools could sustain the loss in continuity that losing three o-line starters would entail.

No starters were missing from the O-line. Unless you mean three starters lost from last season? McPeek, Stepp, and Salmons were all seniors last year.

I didn't follow it that closely, but weren't there some suspensions?

Suspensions were on the defensive line ..
Ahh, well that wasn't really too much of a problem in that game.

Still, I really do think it's too early for everyone in the Herdnation to panic. I will be absolutely shocked if Marshall is not in the mix for the MAC. And, did anyone consider the fact that Troy State might actually be a good team?

I did notice that Stan Hill didn't seem as elusive. Is he injured?
I didn't see the game, but it may very well be that Troy State is just a good team. Maybe they deserve more credit than they're getting. It's similar to NIU upsetting Maryland last year. There were probably a lot of Maryland fans screaming about Maryland's performance after they lost. After this year's game, Maryland just barely won, and I'm hoping the conclusion is that NIU must be pretty good, rather than that Maryland screwed up again.

Just a thought.

Thats a question some of us had , he didn't seem to want to take off
and run , last year he had several nice runs either by design or
under pressure. As far as I know his knee is 100% they say ..
I think that the Herd player just charged in the Arden fight (Garrett) is a defensive player, and he's been suspended at least for the Ohio State game. Isn't he a starter?

I'm wondering if the coaching staff wants him to stay in the pocket more, for some reason. The toughest thing about playing Hill (as opposed to Leftwich) is his annoying tendency to "take off" and make a play out of nothing. I'd say, more than anything else, Hill beat us two years ago with his scrambling/running ability. After all, he scored the winning TD on the ground.

Their defense is definitely for real. The Troy defense was very big, very fast, and very pissed off.

Imagine if a Herd fan actually said that Troy was a good team. Really picture the thread running it's course. Of course we suspect Troy may be a decent to good team, but most of us didn't want to read 30 posts on making excuses about losing to them. It is my hope that Troy runs the table, but who doesn't want a team you lose to to be a world-beater? It is the only way to take the stng out of it.
By most accounts here, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State will all win the Big 10 title undefeated, with Indiana right behind at about 7-1.

I believe Garrett is a backup , I'd send him packing if I were the coach ..
I've seen the article on Garrett now..........based on Pruett's comments (let the legal process work its way through" or something to that effect), he may not be kicking the kid off the team pending the trial, but I'd think that it's pretty hard to let a kid play that has a malacious wounding arrest and trial pending...........after all, it's a low-grade felony, thus is pretty serious stuff. Leaving him home while playing in Columbus was certainly the prudent thing to do...............it could've been ugly with the OSU fans with him there.
My unbiased opinion is that Troy State has a very good defense but an average to below-average offense.

Our defense was able to control the game long enough to gain the lead with 3 field goals, however, not being able to move the ball offensively kept us in horrible field position and lead to our demise.

You forgot Purdue.

Actually, Minnesota and Purdue do not play this year so I could see them both going 8-0. It is a stretch, but it could happen.

For Minnesota, the key is their game @ Michigan. If they win that game I think they will go 8-0 in the Big Ten. For Purdue, they have both OSU and Michigan at home this year so that is very favorable. Finally, for Michigan they have to play @ Purdue and @ Ohio State.

Me thinks advantage to Purdue and Minnesota this year in the Big Ten.

Purdue didn't play a MAC team last week, hence the local spinmeisters haven't been pumping them up. Hell, might as well toss OSU in the mix too after they play Marshall--the only teams left out are NW, ILL, and MSU, all three of whom now have to go a combined 0-40 in conference to make all these other teams "contenders."
Okay. I've got to think that IU is good for 12 to 16 losses once conference play starts.

Apparently you haven't paid a lot of attention to the boards lately. Let me redirect you to Purdue's very own thread on here.

I was actually being serious though. Purdue and Minnesota have the inside track.

As for Ohio State.........OSU plays @ Purdue and home against Michigan and the Buckeyes just don't look that great this year.
