...we could have one of the best stadiums in Div. I-AA!

Seriously, over on the toledorockets.com message board I was given the "greatest over-reaction" award after my sincere analysis of this once-proud program's gradual slide ever since Amstutz took over. Look at the record and the scores. Sometimes, the truth hurts. I wrote then that Kansas would score 42. Guess Iwas wrong. And, I predicted that all they would need to do is body up to Lance Moore and knock him off stride at the line of scrimmage a couple times, and Bruce would be lost. Then, our O line would fail to open holes, and Broussard would end up being our leading rusher, and the game would be over. Maybe I should play the lottery.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE the Rockets! We have season tickets for football and basketball--that's why this mediocrity crap (in BOTH sports) just kills me! Maybe coaches get too complacent when they get their "dream job" because they don't have anywhere else to aim (sound familiar, Stan?). Time for a total overhaul--entire coaching staff and players (at least those who want to go to parties instead of paying the price of excellence) need to be invited to leave--before Eastern Mich, as far as I care. I'd rather forfeit or go 0-9 the rest of the season with a small group of kids who want to work hard and rebuild the program than worry about keeping my supposed "stars" happy. Start Council or Cochran at QB and send a message. This program is in serious trouble...and that's NOT an "over-reaction".
I'm with you Red Rocket. Last week was not a fluke...this is the team we have. I don't know what needs to be changed...maybe it is coaching. I've never been so disappointed in our team.
I just don't know what to say...
Guess I'll get ready for Hurricane Ivan to flatten my home.
AGREE!!!! ****** them

Tampa, I realy hope that your family the best and that the house dont get beat down, all in all this is just a game but the weather is your life, best of luck
matt
I appreciate your concern...we're sweating this on eout down here. The storm is a Cat 5...nothing will be standing iin Tampa if it hits here. Thanks again for the support.

Apparently this tool over on the Rocket Report does not feel the same about me:

I am a TU student and would rather watch have listened to crickets than that pitful game. If Ohio State played Toledo, I would be rooting for my alma mater. Too bad one of those hurricanes didn't blow you away.

What a moron...If I coul donly get my hands on that little punk and take out my frustration with this team and the weather.
I truely believe that the problem with our team is defense... the defense has been getting progressively worse...

Its the defense... let's face it... normal teams only score 20 or 30 points... Stutz needs to replace west and the defense staff... he does that... and we will have a chance... i mean, if the defense can keep us in the game, then the offense might have a reason to keep playing... but, when the opposing team gets a touchdown on every possesion to where there is no chance from coming from behind... then, what is the point? bottom line, Stutz needs to make the changes on the defense...
I spent a week in Homestead about 10 days after Andrew. You don't exaggerate. Hopefully that sucker will lose some steam in the mean-time.

About that guy on the other board--he definitely has some feelings. I just can't figure what they are or who they're for. Maybe he's been listening to too many crickets.

Be safe.
The defense is absolutely the problem.

I think that the defense can't stop people and that we are falling behind early on. When this happens the offense can't run in it's normal rhythm. I think UT depends on the running game to set up the passing game. We only rushed for 40 something yards because we were so far behind from the get go.

I think the D-Line is awful and the O-Line is weak at best. Apparently things are much worse than we anticipated. I remember all of us thinking that the D-Line couldn't have been any worse than last year.........looks like we were wrong.

Is there a reason that Lou West refuses to blitz? Doesn't he realize that there are 5 O-Lineman....a Tight End and sometimes a fullback back there to protect the QB. The only way to put pressure on the QB is to blitz one or two players. I think the strength of this defensive team is the backfield.....so lets rush the QB. As it stands now the QB has all day to throw and eventually the WR's will get away from the DBs.

On the bright side......we gave up 300 yards less this week!

That was me.
After one game, it was an over reaction. But now that they repeated the performance it's very clear that something is catastrophically wrong. They had their chance to improve but couldn't.

I hope Stutz likes answering hard questions because they will definitely be coming now.

They're still using the "Multiple 4-4" defense aren't they? Is it possible that we just don't have the horses to run that defense? Would they do better with a 5-3? OTOH, as UT____ROCKETS kept pounding on me last week, with 8 in the box we still get our butts kicked.
8 in the box doesn't help if you don't blitz.

Did anyone watch the FSU vs. Miami game on Friday night? There wasn't a down that went by where those defenses did not blitz at least two players. Sometimes it was a DB, sometimes a Saftety, sometimes a LB. That is how you play defense and that is what UT did when Amstutz was the D coordinator.

I'm not terribly concerned about the offense. I know it will come around when they don't get the ball when they're already 21 down!

Like they say.........defense wins championships..........if that's the case......we're screwed!

Obviously I've been monitoring Ivan. The 2am Sunday projection looks more like the Panhandle than Tampa. Hopefully you'll be out of the woods soon.We still have people without electric and cell phones after Frances. The tool that posted at Rocket Report ought to live through one of these storm, worry about family, property, and ultimately survival.
Since SE Fla. seems to have lucked out on Ivan missing us, my prayers and concerns are with anybody that Ivan might be bearing down on.
My disappointment in the Rockets' play so far is nothing in the scheme of things.Good luck on the west coast!Let's get Ivan out of the picture
and we can focus more on UT.
Thanks Boca...it is looking like Ivan may miss us. Unfortunately, someone else is going to absorb the hit. Hopefully, the storm will lose strength once it enters the gulf.

I'd much rather get back to focussing on UT and forget about these hurricanes. FB is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things...but damn, it still hurts getting trounced two weeks in a row.
Stutz better get his s*** together in a hurry or he will be working his dream job in front of an empty stadium.

:crying:

The problem with the assumption that they need to BLITZ more.

Is the fact that they were BLITZING !!!!!!

Sad fact ( Almost Sacking the Quarterback, does not count, after the quarterback(s) completed a 20 to 40 yard touchdown pass - on almost every possesion).

After watching Toledo Rocket Football for almost 40 years, I have come to the conclusion after 2 games that this is the worse Rocket Football team in those 40 years. Watching missed tackle after missed tackle on TV during the Minnesota game and listening to the same thing again on every play during the Kansas game is a total embarressment. Add to this the inept Offensive line, geting pushed backwards in 2 games. YET, I hoped for some relief by knowing that parts of Offense can and should score at will. NOT !!!!

Yet, I will be faithful to the University and follow them like a good soldier. There has to be relief somewhere - I do not think it will come with EMU. Can not do much with starting a Freshman Defensive line and half a Freshman Offense.
Old Rock It... Ummmm... I wouldn't say that we have the Worst team in 40 years... guess you weren't there for the Simmerall days... we used to lose to div 2a teams...

it all starts with Defense... if the offense can't get something going for the first quarter... you would hope that you would still be in the game for the second quarter... if by the end of the first quarter you are already out of the game... its over... and the best you can hope for is that the fans aint poor sports... and chuck batteries at the fans/players
All of the problems on this team stems from coaching. The overall talent on this team is tremendous. The coaches, from top to bottom, are not motivating this team and they're not teaching the proper skills to get it done on the field. They're not blocking, they're not tackling, they're not passing, they're not running, they're not even punting well. Either 'Stutz turns things around in a hurry, or he should be out. This is just nuts. Makes me want to hurl. 03-puke
Just an outsiders opinion, but I think you should fire Stutz and promote LOU WEST to Head Coach!!!!!!!! 04-rock 03-wink
Just can't resist kicking when the other guy is down, can you.

KB, if Old Rock It has been a fan for nearly 40 years, he was around almost back to the day when Simrell was our QB, not a coach. We've seen exellence and we've seem futility. This is off the scale.
Exactly my point 1 or 2 bad games (really bad games) or even seasons, does disappoint our expectations. It has been worse
before and ALL of us should realize it. Problem - Good opponents
and the Rocket Lines are to young. My point is that we must at look what our Freshman D-Line have to learn from. In the next year or 2
look out. This is learning season. In the mean time we as fans need to support the Rockets. As Stutz says 'GAME OVER - Learn from - Next'. We need to do the same and keep supporting the Rockets!!!!!!

Thanks KingBob for remaining me that things can be worse.
I feel better now. Anyone going to support the team at EMU for our first big seasonal win with many to follow. GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!! 03-wink
