Besides Wolfe, did the officials miss 2 Bowling Green fumbles? #42 DiBacco, on BG's first drive, and #21 Magner with about 5 minutes left. In both cases, they were hit, some other part of the body touched the ground, but the ball was out before the knees had touched. Shouldn't those be fumbles too? Just wondering...
I also thought the hit Ray Smith put on that Falcon on the goal line was legit. Hey how about Ball St beating the Broncos.

Legit? Going for the head with ANY part of the body is illegal....period. That was also very dangerous.

Although the contact was not helmet to helmet, the NCAA rule is that any contact with the head on a play such as that is a penalty. After watching the replay on ESPN, the refs made the right call.

Baloney. He was neither
going for his head (though it's good to know that our Falcon friend can read Ray's mind  ), nor did he even
hit his head.
If the refs wanted to say that he should have laid up on him, I could buy that. I wouldn't agree with them, but I'd at least buy it. But there was no shot to the head - he hit him on the chest/shoulder with his shoulder, and that's what happens in football when you meet up over the middle with a safety.
I love physical football that sends a message.

No more dangerous than Cole Magner diving at the back of our CB Rob Lee's leg 20 yards downfield trying to block a running play that went for 3 yards.

Dan,
I'll disagree with you on where he hit hte receiver. On the replay it appeared that Smith's shoulder pads caught the receiver under his chin.

I don't think ray is a physics major and he didn't really judge where the man was going to come down...Looks like ray wanted to hit him in the sternum in the case that he caught the ball it would jar loose. I think it was a clean intended hit and the mans chin came down on rays shoulder. I think it was a bad call.
Legit or illegal...That hit sent a message to all BGSU receivers!
The replay (which was on most hightlight reels over the weeked) showed that the NIU saftey wasn't leading with his head. Thankfully, if he did lead with his head that kid from BGSU may have been killed.
Figured that we get some whining from the BGSU camp about that hit.
Since their defense looked like they were playing flag football most of the night.

Whining....
"Sent a message whether it was legit or illegal"?
So you're saying if the hit was illegal it was still worth it? That is BS...
I merely pointed out that Smith's hit was illegal.
You guys say whatever you want...the replay didn't lie. Smith nailed Sharon in the head.
And speaking of our defense playing flag football most of the night...did you guys roll up 630+ yards? Did we manage a meager 227 yrds of O? I didn't think so. :chair:
Congrats on the win...you beat us, no doubt. But it ain't over....ton of ball to be played. Enjoy the win....we'll be waiting for you at the Doyt next yr.

You and I saw different replays.
Two years in a row in DeKalb I hear complaints from BG about cheap shots and illegal hits. Sounds like a team that doesn't like to get hit. :chair:

C'mon Dan....you can do better than that. What other plays did I bring up as "illegal"? In the 2002 game, I never saw any hit that was questionable, let alone illegal.
BG can hit with the best of them. NIU got the better of us Friday night. I ain't disputing that. But if you really believe that was a legal hit, you're crazy.
I'm closing this discussion on my part. The game is history and I'll move on. Looks like neither of us will have our minds changed.
BTW, our volleyball team beat yours Sat, 3-1!
(Hey, I gotta have something positive)
220 meager yards of offense? BGSU with 600+ offense? What game were you watching!?
Check out the box score!!

Our 2nd string RB (the 3rd best on the team) ran for over 200 yards in the second half of that game. Most of which came on HB iso runs. It was straight up man on man blocking! The BGSU d-line was pimp slapped repeatedly last week.
If NIU didn't switch to a 3-4 in the second half, preventing the big play and giving BGSU everything underneath they (BGSU) may not have had 200 yds total offense.
RE: Legit or Illegal...Whether you thought the hit was legit or illegal it still sent a message to the BGSU receivers. I should have been more clear with that statement.

I heard quite a bit from BG fans about cheap shots after the 2002 game. Note - when WRs come across the middle, a safety will tattoo them. You might want to write that down and make sure your guys remember this next time around.
