Man that sucks !!
Nance was on the bench right in front of us. He took everything that the Marshall crowd gave him......and just smiled. He is a total class act, & I think that he actually won over the Marshall Fans in one of the toughest sections in the stadium. As for Betts & Larkin, they rode them all night long............HARD.......... Larkin deserved it for his "suck my D#ck" comment to the crowd.

Too bad about Nance.

Oh man, that is not good. He is certainly a great player.
If Larkin said that, he needs to keep his freakin' mouth shut. If someone actually heard that personally, I'd like to you PM me. That is unacceptable.
I sit too far back to hear anything like that, but something sure got the fans in a tissy that were right in the general vicinity of the Miami bench. I assumed it was just just the usual "friendly" banter between players and fans. I wouldn't be too hard on him, though, if true. It is hard (easy?) to imagine what our fans said to him to set him off.

One of the things I like about our fans is their rabid attitude towards other teams at home. However, this places us skating a thin line most of the time and that means many will cross it. Not all, but enough to give us a bit of a black eye as a fanbase. I certainly can understand a frustrated player (18-22 yr old college student) giving it right back, despite it not being in his best interest as a representative of his school.
I remember when I was one of 'those fans' trying to goad another player. One of the old standbyes was to ride some kid who never left the bench about his lack of playing time. The goal, of course, was to get a reaction from the player, and that usually was enough for the fans to warm up to him. So if some Miami guy did say something rude to the crowd, big deal.

The best ever, though, was when EKU came running onto the field before a game, and their mascot turned his big, Colonel head (while still running) and flipped the students an exquisite bird. It was spontaneous, no doubt deserved, and completely hilarious.
Yeah it's another reason why I like football in the south. There is no mocked indignation at the antics of fans. It is a game of classless one-upmanship. It also is what we call fun.
First of all, as a player, if you respond to the crowd, they've won.

In wrestling one year, I had seven guys in the state finals, and every time they announced one of my guys, the crowd resoundingly booed them. Of course, I think it's absolutely classless and awful to boo a high school kid, but regardless, it really upset my team.

One kid was practically in tears and asked, "Coach, why did they boo me?"

I just said, "because you're good."

In any case, if one of my wrestlers had responded to the crowd, I would have killed them, and they knew it. When you are representing your school you need to act like a representative of the school, not like a punk. "Suck my d##k" is not an appropriate response, no matter what the crowd said (if it actually happened).

kinda like throwing dead birds? (if it actually happened)
""Suck my d##k"

He actually mouthed it to the crowd while pointing down. It was right after Miami scored, late in the game(I believe it was their last touchdown & 2 point conversion). How do I know?.....I was on the 3rd row right behind the bench on the 40yard line. I saw it.

Quite frankly, I really didn't think it was that big of a deal. The crowd was riding them constantly. The fact that they were acknowledging these fans, proves what Dodo was saying....they were distracted from the game. Which is exactly what some of these fans are trying do...get into their heads & distract them from the game. #23 Schroeder was a little out of bounds when he was bragging about a Marshall player that was injured, & was laying on the field. It was just a game between 2 heated rivals, that caught up in the competition of the game.

Which do you think is a more credible source -- a cheerleading advisor or some random fan on a message board?

You are a "Random Fan" on a message board.

Quote:Knowing the meaning of a word can involve knowing many things: to what objects the word refers (if any), whether it is slang or not, what part of speech it is, whether it carries overtones, and if so what kind they are, and so on. To know all this, or to know enough to get by, is to know the use. And generally knowing the use means knowing the meaning. Philosophical questions about consciousness, for example, then, should be responded to by looking at the various uses we make of the word "consciousness." Scientific investigations into the brain are not directly relevant to this inquiry (although they might be indirectly relevant if scientific discoveries led us to change our use of such words). The meaning of any word is a matter of what we do with our language, not something hidden inside anyone's mind or brain.
