OK...my feelings about the way Marshall runs its program from an ethical standpoint is well established. However, here are the things I admire about Marshall:

1) Your kids ALWAYS play hard, even when they're down. They fly all over the field and generally play the game the way it should be played.

2) Pruett is rarely, if ever, out coached. There is always a well though-out game plan, and there is always some type of innovation you didn't see the week before. Any Herd fans who criticize Pruett as a coach are morons.

3) You core fan base is loyal, rabid, and loud. That's not a bad thing, within limits. Truthfully, I wish that Miami had such a core of dedicated fans.

4) Marshall fans are pretty gracious in victory (except Herd Swimming) -- at least on these boards. They do tend to think "the sky is falling" after a loss. Then again, so do I.

I have to say that it is going to be hard to replace the intensity of this rivalry. I wondered how I'd feel after this game is over, and truthfully, I'm ambivalent. I have to say that I probably have had stronger feelings about this game than any other over the last few years. I am truly thankful that we’ll have more of an opportunity to play our “traditional rivals
Marshall was good for the MAC. I'm not sure CUSA will be as good for them. That other MAC school leaving I don't care about.
Oh c'mon guys, we still have the rest of this season. The MAC will survive without Marshall. I wish so many didn't take our move so personally. It's just part of the game. If the stupid BCS didn't exist I doubt teams would be looking to change conferences as much but the way it is now you have to try to keep on moving to better yourself.

I should also add that you have to be blind not to see the positive effect that Marshall has had on the MAC in terms of quality of recruiting, level of play, national interest, and fan interest.

Would that have happened anyway? Hard to say, but it's also hard to ignore the fact that Marshall helped the conference along.

And I don't take your move personally. I'm not sure you'll make money, but I understand wanting a more Southern orientation like you did in the old Southern Conference. Also, if it's bowl chances you want, it's bowl chances you're going to get in C-USA.

Priceless.

I've said nothing about last night's game. NOTHING.

But don't push it, because I have plenty.

You will in about 2 weeks.
And don't forget , the MAC was good for Marshall as well , allowed us to make
the move to D1 without having to play 8/9 games on the road against
top 15 teams week in and week out...I have no problem with the MAC from
a competitive standpoint. There are some good FB teams in the MAC , although
we all have had a bad year outside the conference this year. The MAC will
survive after the 2004 year ...

Only long enough to get a conference road victory.

With all due respect Shad, why would anyone take a conference member leaving personally? If your not happy then move on. What I take personally is the "MAC sucks" BS. Fortunately, most Herd fans I have talked to don't think this is the case, and, in fact say they will miss games with certain MAC opponents.

Feel free to remove the giant stick up your @ss.

It's just football. I'm sure you'll be fine.
Most Marshall fans believe the MAC has some very good football programs. There are about 5 programs that are pretty good that could beat anybody on any given day. The problem is there are a lot of other schools in the conference that really bring it down and add very little. More bowl tie ins and a more southern conference are definately more appealing for Marshall. There are also concerns with what the future holds with the new attendance rules. I know I will miss some of the matchups that we play in the MAC but I do understand the reasons for the move. We still have a long way to go until the end of the season so anything could happen but Marshall is in the drivers seat right now.

For what it's worth to you UCF fans...tonight I was listening to Marshall's weekly call in show with Coach Pruett and he was discussing the remaining schedule. He got to UCF and said that he would almost guarantee that before the season is over you guys will be a major factor in the MAC.

Because it's insulting.

Conference USA bites.

I've been saying it since the day they unveiled that retarded name -- and the fact that they are being abandoned by freaking Cincinnati only confirms my previous assumptions.

I like Marshall fans. I detest Marshall. They've already won too many games this year for my taste.

He has to say that for the fact he's moving with them next year.

I dont see why it has to be replaced.

I think it should be played EVERY year home / away.

I would rather we play Miami OF OHIO every year then this POINTLESS "rivalry" bell game.

Hell for like the past 6 years or so the game was always on thanksgiving weekend and I can remeber several times when the stadium was bare to the bone.

I say MU v. MU continue. 04-rock

Yea right.
We'll see. O'Leary inherited a team that was in shambles last year. I don't think the same thing will happen on his watch. Just a hunch.

Oh, we're all shaking in our boots. Your scathing critiques and biting wit are well known.

The thing is, our OOC schedule is booked through 2011.
