Toledo, OH - The University of Toledo announced today that the Rockets' home football game against Ohio on Oct. 16 will be broadcast on ESPN. The kickoff, which had been set for 7:00 p.m., will now be at noon.

The Ohio game now gives Toledo five regular-season games on its 2004 schedule that are on ESPN or ESPN2. The Rockets' season opener vs. Minnesota on Sept. 4 was on ESPN2. November games vs. Miami, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green will all be on ESPN2. In addition, the Buckeye Cable Sports Network (BCSN) in Toledo carried the Eastern Michigan and will pick up the Western Michigan game on Oct. 9.

"This is another great opportunity for the University of Toledo and for the Mid-American Conference," said Toledo head coach Tom Amstutz. "To have five games on ESPN or ESPN2 is a big plus for our program. Our players love to play on ESPN."

ESPN will carry the Toledo-Ohio game in eight states and in other selected markets to be announced. The eight states are Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. The game will also be available across the country on ESPN GamePlan on a pay-per-view basis.

Toledo (3-2, 2-0 MAC) has won three straight games going into this Saturday's game at Western Michigan. Ohio (3-2, 1-1 MAC), coming off a 28-16 upset at Kentucky last week, hosts Marshall this week.

This is GREAT!!!
Noon game on ESPN! 04-rock
This is great news if fans still come out to see the game.
I guess OU's win over Kentucky helped along with the fact that Gradkowski is near the top of the NCAA in every passing statistic.

Go Rockets!

I was just going to sign on and start a topic about home games and the Blue Condem Rocket... Those of you in Toledo, oh who have access to the campus... can some one pleeeeeeeeesssseee tell them not to let him into the stadium... cause, you know they always fan over to the mascots after a score... 03-banghead
I sent out an email to four of my friends who are not UT fans to get them to go to this game with me yesterday. Most will not attend with me now I am sure because one is a Michigan grad, so I am sure he will want to watch the Michigan game instead. Another one moved here from Oklahoma a few months ago, so I am sure that this will interfere with that game and the others may not want to pay the $22 if they can sit home in their house and watch it.

Another reason that this may not be good for me is if they have that Pam Ward guy do the analysis. My friend swears that he is the demise of UT football on ESPN (see BC & Minnesota). Pam Ward handled both of these games. :(

I also don't like the thought of a daylight game in the Glass Bowl, but I do like the exposure the team will get...as long as it is good.

One good thing is that I will be able to tape this game.
Any chance Game Day will be here????

Pam Ward is a female.
Yeah, the moved most of the games to 7pm because the turnout for day games are usually not that good... however, if y'all remember the NIU game last year was during the day and it was Freezing rain and frigg'n cold... and there was quite a big crowd... it just depends on how well the game is advertised...

It's definitely a possibility, but Virginia plays at Florida State that night and I have a feeling they are going to be in Tallahassee for that game.
Although you might want to do a Crocodile Dundee check on that...

Well, I checked the schedules and it is a mixed bag of news for Toledo.

OSU @ Iowa - 4:30pm ET
UM @ ILL - TBA
ND @ Navy - 12:00pm

OSU away at 4:30 works good for Toledo. Michigan may be at the same time, but away and ND is at the same time. Luckily the ND factor isn't nearly as big as OSU or UM.

GO ROCKETS - Fire West - Fire the Blow Up Rocky!
Yes, the OSU game is good news for Toledo. I check mgoblue.com and they listed the Illinois game at 11:00 Central time though. Honestly, that is my biggest fear is that there will be plenty of open seats.

I will see what I can do about finding people to attend with me though.

It was cold and rainy. Attendance was just over 20K too, which isn't great. The game started at 3pm due to coverage on Fox Sports Net.
Well... this is a good test for Johnson and the Ad... they should be Marketing the game and trying to build a relationship with the Blade... if they can get a big turn out, it will show just exactly where their loyalties lie...

This is a good chance for a letter/email writing campaign...
So, if this game is only going to be carried in some markets, does anyone have any idea who we're splitting time with on ESPN? I looked at their TV schedule, and they don't have anyone listed for noon on ESPN, just BC@Pitt on ESPN2.

It is regional. I think it is shown in eight states.

You say that as if you're convinced. I'm not 03-razz

It said 8 states plus some other regions will be added later. I think they are still looking for another game at that time slot. It may end up to be a full national game if they don't find one.
