Anybody know the divisional tiebreaker if there's a 3-way tie? Basically, NIU beat BG - what if BG beats Toledo and Toledo beats NIU. They would all have 1 conf loss.
Not a clue. I have wondered the same. Can't be based on the overall record. Only guess would be the team that hasn't been to the MACC or won the conference in the longest period of time. Kind of like the Big 11. That would give us the nod. :)
Toledo won't beat NIU anyway!

Why not?
This has been argued before but the botton line to me appears to be that this one ends up with coin tosses. Toss three coins and the odd coin is out. Then one more one coin flip to determine the West champion.
BG will have at least 2 losses.........

Yes, Oklahoma and NIU. 03-razz
Surely somebody knows the answer to this one! Must be a multi-level thingy, where it starts with:
1. record within the division
2. points scored against all conference foes
3. attendance

C'mon - somebody call the MAC office. Inquiring minds want to know.

Go HERD

Factman,

I don't know....UT has NIU's number and always seems to beat the Huskies....doesn't matter where they play either. Until NIU actually beats the Rockettes....this could be the year. If ever there was a year NIU should be fired up its this one. Of course, we said the same thing in 2002.

Time will tell.
There was some talk that after conference record, division record, head-to-head, etc. that they would go to non-conference record. BG would have the edge at 2-1 or 1-1 if you don't include a non-1A opponent. Does anyone know if this is not the case?
I seem to remember that they look at the cross-over conference games. The team that played the best teams (based on combined conference record) would win the division.

NIU played UCF and Akron (currently 4-5)
Toledo played/plays Ohio and Miami (5-5)
BGSU played/plays Ohio and Marshall (5-4)

It is the MAC so the rules might change every year.

Nice one ...
OK - just got off the phone with the MAC office in Cleveland. The AD's voted for this procedure during the spring '04 meetings.

1st - Head to Head. Obviously, the situation we are talking about here is NIU, BGSU & UT all ending up with 7-1 conference records. In
this scenario, we go to tie-breaker #2:

(Tie breaker #2 would only apply with a 2 way tie, so...........)

Tie breaker #3 - You would compare the combined conference record
of the teams' crossover games. That would be turned into a combined winning %. The team whose crossover opponents winning % is the
highest would be declared the champ. Did that make any sense??

Example: NIU's crossover games were Akron & UCF. Right now, NIU better take care of business, because the Zipper/Knight winning % in-conference checks in @ .444 (4-5).

Any comments??

Go HERD!!!

p.s. Toledo's crossover games - MofO and Ohio currently (.500) 5-5

BGSU's crossover games - Ohio and MUg currently (.555) 5-4
Shameless Bump!!

@least I took the time to call and get the scoop.

I realize it is an unlikely scenario, but interesting to think about.

Go HERD!! Beat those UCF'rs
Man you are dedicated!

I guess all you BUGsters will be huge Herd fans the next couple weeks, right?
I never realized that I was actually an Akron and UCF fan. Well, you learn something every day.

Go Akron! Go UC....sorry, just can't do it. Go Akron!

You got that right! GO HERD and GO BOBCATS!!! Did I just say what I think I said????

Course if NIU beats UT, all this will be for naught!
When Toledo beats NIU and BG this thread won't matter! 03-razz
The commissioner has to be rooting for Toledo or BG to win the West. Otherwise, he'll be faced with the embarrassment of 5K fans showing up for the MACC in Detroit on a Thursday night.

I don't know about that. The city of Detroit will support the game. Also, EMU isn't too far from Detroit and this gives their fans a chance to see what a championship game is like. :D

I do have to say that from what I have heard from Marshall fans, it would be better attendance wise if Miami somehow makes it to the MACC instead of Marshall. I say this because many Herd fans have said they won't go to the game if it is on a neutral field.
