BGSU Leads MAC in 10-year Graduation Category
Student-athletes represent those from 1988-89 to 1997-98

Oct. 28, 2004

Bowling Green, Ohio - Former BGSU student-athletes who received athletic aid, entered the University from 1988-89 thru 1997-1998, and exhausted their eligibility achieved a 93% graduation rate according to latest figures released by the NCAA. The total, which represented 401 student athletes, is the highest in the Mid-American Conference.

"I am very proud that our scholarship athletes recognized the opportunity they had and took advantage of it," said BGSU Athletics Director Paul Krebs. "Historically, the entire academic community at BGSU and our department have worked well to help young men and women juggle the demands of obtaining a quality education and competing at the Division I level."

BGSU was joined by Miami (92%), Ohio (92%) and Western Michigan (92%) as MAC school's who had a similar graduation rate above 90% in the MAC.

Should I point out that there's really not a difference between a 92% graduation rate and a 93% graduation rate?

National average is 83%. As a conference, this is a pretty respectable showing.

How does the "Number Exhausting Eligibility" figure reflect in the graduation rate?
If the NCAA really means what they say about the student athlete then this statistic should be the key factor in determining 1A qualification, not attendance.
Stop Begging
Who's begging? The numbers speak for themselves. Next year the MACs graduation average will be even better without Marshall pulling it down.

True, the NCAA should factor in these numbers heavily, but then they hold these numbers for all divisions.

I don't find it logical to have graduation rate as a heavy qualifier since it can be said that the graduation rate may remain static even after the move in division.

I'm not sold on Marshall's number. It doesn't seem correct. That's why I was asking about "Number Exhausting Eligibility". The term was just before their switch to D1A.

I also thought BSU and EMU would be higher. I had no preconceptions regarding UT nor CMU.
