Here's something interesting for BG fans:

If Miami beats Toledo tomorrow night, and then Toledo beats NIU.....the only chance BG has is if they beat Toledo and NIU loses to Eastern Michigan. The reason is because if Toledo loses to Miami and BG they will have 2 losses and BG and NIU will tie for first with 1 loss and NIU will win the head-to-head tiebreaker. Since it is not likely that EMU will beat NIU, BG fans need Toledo to beat Miami. 03-razz

In the East, look at this scenario:

Miami loses to Toledo and beats Akron
Akron beats Marshall and loses to Miami
Marshall loses to Akron and BGSU™

Miami, Akron, and Marshall all finish 6-2 in the MAC and tied for the East title. Who goes to the MACC?

This really gets confusing if Toledo, NIU, and BG all finish 7-1 in the MAC West. We would have a 3-way tie in the East and a 3-way tie in the West! Who goes to the MACC from each division??????

 04-drinky
I don't know, I think Eastern will be able to put up some points against Northern's D, the way they are playing right now. If Ball State can take NIU to OT, I wouldn't count out something crazy happening at Ypsi either!
I'm not that concerned. I think Toledo wins tommorrow night.

I guess it is possible, but not likely.

Something to keep in mind though............

If we win at Miami and at NIU, it will be very very very difficult for BG to beat Toledo in the Glass Bowl. If we can beat those two on the road we are not going to lay over for BG at home. 03-wink
Didn't EMU beat NIU in their last trip to Ypsi? Seems to me that NIU was like 7-3 or something like that and got crushed. Losing to EMU isn't that crazy considering EMU is above average and NIU almost lost to BSU last week.

The East will be decided this week. If MUr looses and MUg wins its over. Simple as that.

Though its possible that MUg will lose to Akron, you have to remember that MUg thrives in games like this and always finds a way to win. In championship games since rejoining the MAC (MACC, MAC East Clinchers, Bowl games) MU is 16-3 with losses to Ole Miss(97), Toledo(2002), Miami(2004).

I just don't think Akron has what it takes to take the East from Marshall.

One team that does have what it takes is Toledo. My heart says I want a UT-MU matchup on a neutral field to crown the King of the MAC but my head says NIU is a much better match up for the Herd.

BGSU would give us fits too.

Nope, that was 4 years ago when we were barely getting winning records.
Remember from an earlier thread: The 7-1 3 way tie would be broken based on the winning percentage (in-conference) of the teams' crossover opponents.

For instance, Tole_o's xovers are Mur & Ohio.

Go HERD !!

Yeah, but if Marshall and Miami both finish 6-2 then Toledo and BG's East opponents will have identical conference records. Then what?

Toledo played Ohio and Miami

BG played Ohio and Marshall

NIU played UCF and Akron so they would be out in this scenario
Probably scoring differiential. I remember an NFL season awhile back where Carolina and GB were tied all the way to that tie breaker and Carolina need to beat whoever they were playing by like 35 pts to make the playoffs. Needless to say Carolina didn't win by 35.

Has a Championship or Playoff bid ever been decided on a coin flip?

I would hope that the MAC doen't even consider that because that would make the conference look bush league.
I've done gone and figured this all out. Assuming Toledump beats NIU and BUGS beats Toledump, you've got a 3 way tie in the MAC West. The tiebreaker is the conference record of cross divisional foes. With that being said:

1. BUGS cross divisional opponents are Marshall and Ohio. Marshall is 5-0, Ohio 1-5 in conference. Call it Marshall 7-1, Ohio 2-6 in conference and you've got 9-7 overall.

2. NIU plays Akron and UCF. Akron is 4-1 with UCF 0-5. Akron will probably end up at 5-3 with UCF 0-8. Well, let's give them one and call it 1-7. That's 5-10 overall.

3. Toledump plays Miami and Ohio. We've given Ohio 2-6. Assuming Toledump beats Miami, that puts Miami at 6-2. With Ohio, that's 8-8 for cross divisional foes.

So, BUGS cross divisional opponents: 9-7.
Toledump cross divisional opponents: 8-8
NIU cross divisional opponents: 5-10

BUGS wins the tiebreaker.

Eh.

Everyone has an opinion.

BUGS wins the tiebreaker.
What if Marshall, Miami, and Akron finish is a 3-way tie at 6-2 in the East at the same time that Toledo, NIU, and BG finish 7-1 in the West though? It could definitely happen.
This is getting ridiculous. Do we have to be "rocket" scientists to figure out who wins the tie-breakers? :D

This is confusing.
