The purpose of this post is to talk about the game itself. Not the attendance or any trash if possible.

QBs
For the greater portion of this game, Frye had his thunder stolen from him by Stan Hill. I haven't heard this said on here yet, but Hill was really good. He would throw one or two clunkers, but then hit some precision thows when Akron had guys in his face. Then, when the Zips could get no pressure on him in the 3rd quarter, he was just carving them up. The TV guys were really switching the hype over to Hill, and deservedly so. Bates made some good snags too. Although what people will talk about are the misses.

Frye really needed this game to have one "signature game" in his senior year. Watching this, you could see how hampered the guy has been by some butterfingered receivers. He took the bull by the horns late. But there were two specific plays that were just SICK. One was the last play of the 3rd quarter. He juked away from three Marshall guys, freezing one of them with a fake even though the guy was BEHIND him, ran to the edge and hit a man 30 yards down field. That drive ended up stalling. The 4th down tying TD was just incredible. He avoided a sack, ran to the absolute last instant and hit that guy in the absolute only place he could. A great play all around.

Kudos to both QBs for really solid play.
Hella kudos to Frye. Nothing more really needs to be said, as he proved his worth tonight.

Hill, on the other hand, is difficult for us to get excited about. We have waited all year for him to look like this, and he's had his ups and downs (and even his ups haven't been as spectacular as our jaded expectations have led us to hope for). That said, what he hasn't shown is consistency, and there's no telling what version of Stan Hill we'll see next week against BG.

Finally, as for specifically his performance tonight, for as well as he played (and he played one of his best games of his career), it's a team game, and Marshall lost, so it's difficult to get excited about a losing performance, no matter how good.

Great effort on both parts, as Frye cemented his position in the draft with his performance, and I'm glad to see Hill improve his potential standing with NFL scouts.

That said, I still would have taken an ugly Stan Hill game and a win over this...and something tells me that Hill would have too.

I saw several dropped passes in the endzone by Marshall recievers...I thought Hill looked pretty good. Marshall just pulled an NIU in the 4th quarter...it happens.
Frye was also hit in the 3rd Qtr, according to Zip announcers on the radio, the hardest he has been hit in 4 years, the backup was actually warming up..........

Was good to see Akron come out and support, Jason Taylor walked right next to me and my son! Woot! 04-rock
