What was the halftime show attempting ? I felt sorry for the parents of the younger Huskie fans having their children exposed to guys in drag. The moral majority of fans was offended. The halftime shoe was as bad as Haldi and the Offensive and Defensive coordinators game plans.
DUDE

you stole my thread idea!!!
:)
I totally forgot about that.....that may have been the lowlight of the evening. I know the band prob. worked hard on that performance, but what where they thinking?

can one of you explain the halftime show, i waited the whole halftime in a bathroom line?
It was an interpretation of the movie "Roxie Horror Picture Show". The movie is strange as it is, not something to please the masses. There was the transvestites and some dudes in underwear on the field, the band was dressed in neon tank tops and sweat suits. The music was ok, but they kept having an annoying narrator keep the story line.

I think i might have to get out the grocery bag next year....to wear over my head then to barf in it.
Thanks for starting this string.....I am laughing my @ss off have have completely forgotten how painful this loss is. I cannot believe that freak show...I love the band but WTF? I can't wait to see what they do next year...
Dude, that is so funny. I am laughing out loud here in my living room. I was at the game. The theatrical band thing was the worst NIU band performance I have ever seen (going back to 1987, here). I just read your post to my wife to try and explain how bad the band was. Words don't come close. Vomit bag is a good idea - should come with the game ticket...
This could be a major turning point for the band...a "Sgt. Peppers" if you will. A definite turn from the norm, but could be the start of something big.

Ok, I'm getting a little obsessive about this band thing, but I can't wait to hear Dog Fan's review of the show... :D
i have never been so happy to see nendick come out to start praticing his kicking so that i had something better to watch.
I think that must be the same routine they did a week ago Saturday here at Ball State. I thought it was a little corny, but that's coming from someone who has no real appreciation for theatric/ dance type stuff like that. If it was the same routine, the one chick had quite a short skirt with a slit almost all the way up to her hip - that at least made it interesting.

While that halftime show was odd, NIU's band is awesome during the game. They do a great job.
Too bad the halftime show was more entertaining than the football game.
Entertaining isn't exactly the word...abslutely freaking bizarre is more like it. The response around me ranged from stunned, slack-jawed silence to screaming pleas to stop the madness. In retrospect, I blame the band for the start of last night's downward spiral. Okay, not really, but it's tempting.

Umm BSU4U, I hate to tell you this but that wasn't a chick but a guy dressed in drag. 03-puke
Now I remember why I grab a beer and a smoke at halftime.
The band was great - no disrespect to them. They sounded good. But enough of the clever theatrical crap. Just play the horns and bang the drums - LOUDLY!. I want intensity and energy, not creativity. I was actually having a good time with the Metallica "One" drums during the game. That has a high charging feel to it. I hope the "idea guy" for the NIU band sees these posts and takes the advice. There were dozens of people around me laughing, complaining, criticizing, insulting and leaving. It was the greatest cue for a bathroom break as you could get.
Yikes! Tail between legs and running... :crying:
I didn't think this would be possible if we lost, but I was much more disturbed by the halftime show than I was the actual game.

If your going to do a borderline offensive halftime show like that, have all the cheerleaders come out in g strings and dance around, at least SOME fans will enjoy that.

:D
On the trip home from Dekalb today we were admitedly laughing our @$$es off about the halftime show.

NIU fans were even asking us to crank up our sirens that had earlier been silenced by the NIU Police for "disturbing the peace" (I'm still wondering how that is possible when we 100 or so Rocket fans were surrounded by 27,000 NIU fans armed with Thunderstix).

We definitely decided that the halftime show cursed you guys in the second half and have deemed it the "ROCKET HORROR PICTURE SHOW".

Sorry I didn't get to meet Dog Fan. I gather either he or PaintedHulaHuskie were somehow involved with the halftime show preventing us from linking up. 04-bow
first, the show was similar but also different than the performance I recall at BSU a week earlier. I did not get nor seek a good viewing point in Muncie but the "queen/queer" outfits were surely not there in full drag. It was "okay" for a halloween eve concept. It did NOT belong IMO at last Tuesday's nationally televised game. Thus far after three quarters of viewing the gametape , thank god only a split second near halftime got any airtime.

I have watched the movie a few times and found it "entertaining" and accept others living alternative lifestyles, but I seripously doubt the show appealed to a large majority of football fans. The folks seated next to me were once in HS band and their daughter is now a member of the NIU band. They found it uncomfortable and inappropriate.

I mentioned previously of having contacted Peters regarding the bands less than full membership and lack of volume compared to past decade. He was in agreement improvements are necessary but will cost ALOT of money we don't have now.

WHAT HAS ALSO DISAPPPOINTED ME WAS TO LEARN THE FOLOWING.

SHOULD WE GET A BOWL BID, THE BAND WILL PERFORE A RECYCLED SHOW RATHER THAN CREATING SOMETHING FRESH FOR THE VENUE AND OCCASION.

REASON GIVEN? NOT ENUFF TIME TO PREPARE A NEW SHOW. SO, HOW DO OTHER SCHOOLS DO IT?

If they were going for artistic merit, many other possible themes are available. If going for campy/satire it fell short in my eyes. Stanford were are not.

Hardly the end of the world but clearly, this is a band on the run........
downhill.

BTW: How did NIU pay for the costumes? rented? home made? How much $? THeybshoulda saved it for new sheet music.
