As much as our defense sucked, I'd still have to place the blame on Wolfe. He is an impact player, and with the Huskies being a team based on momentum, there's no telling how much he could have changed the make-up of the game.
I blame Toledo's offense for executing on third down and its defense for pressuring Haldi and stuffing the run. It's all their fault. 03-wink

How about All of the Above
Its TOTAL freakin bull**** if you blame it on wolfe.

wolfe cant fix our HORRID ability to stop toledo if our lives depended on it.
yeah i agree, i meant to exclude him from all of the above.
I had to go with Haldi over the D even though it was a hard decision. A 3 year starter at QB should not play that atrociously in the biggest game of his teams existence. If he was at a school like Florida state he would not be playing next week.

While I harbor no ill feelings towards Wolfe, I disagree.

If he would have played, our offense would have been much more effective, thus changing the time of possession in the second half. 19 yards of offense - give me a break. You can't expect a defense to be spot on for an entire half when they get a 30 second rest break in between drives.

AND - as true Cubs fan :D - I'm gonna pull out the old Bartman argument. While you can't immediately blame Wolfe / Bartman directly for the terrible performance on the field, I believe that the respective actions of both managed to knock some confidence out of both teams - effectively changing their game time mood - and eventually - performance.

Ok. Let the beat down begin! :chair: 03-nutkick
Lets get real, I think Toledo is the blame for us losing. Nobody ever wants to believe that the other team is not out there to make us look good.
Fact is, our offense was averaging 38 points a game coming into this game. If we have an average offensive game, then our defense did enough for us to win. Therefore, I blame, the offense more, but I think the loss was a total team effort, caused in large measure to Toledo's fine execution.

I was just going to narrow my selection to just "Defense" and "Offense" :D , but I can't pick two choices.

Balme is a negative thing, so you can't blame Toledo. You can only credit them and swear at them. :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:
It's the offense. Toledo's 'D' has been bad all year. Per some Rocket fans, it had been getting better, but the pass 'D' was still bad. We should have been able to score at least 35-40 points.

Toledo's offense was as expected. They didn't score any more points than I would have expected, even though it was frustrating to watch. Although, our tackling WAS atrocious. Still, it was the offense more than the 'D', I think.
The defense tried to not give up big plays, and they succeded (although the gave up 'big' plays, just not long plays). The offense was way off. Garrett probably would have made some difference. Haldi threw poorly and made bad decisions (the TD was an interception that was tipped up) There was not enough effort to get the ball in SHeldon;s hands. But it's over. I am not blaiming anyone because there is no way you can point to one thing. But it's over. We win next week and BGS wins and we're in.

Cool lets blame the guy who didn't play, i mean it's not like we went up 10 without him or anything.

Nope we were ducks on a pond. You guys, the knowledge on this board, makes me proud to be a fan. We can't accept a loss to a team who clearly has our number so lets blame a running back who didn't play. Let's just say our team isn't as good as toledo's. I'm sick of these ****** excuses, who are we bowling green? :withstupid:

Who is this to?
It's probably to the people who blame Wolfe for NIU getting their ******es handed to them in almost every facet of the game.

I didn't vote because I don't want to "blame" it on anything. IMO, it was a combination of things:

-not being mentally ready, due in part to the incident involving probably our biggest playmaker

-not blocking in the running game in the second half

-defense not getting third down stops

-throws not being accurate and WRs not making plays

-Toledo playing an excellent game, especially their Oline
I agree with you Willy (disagreeing with me!). But I feel that this should have been the year, and the Wolfe incident was the catalyst of a bad game.
An outsider's perspective:

I voted "offense," because you should have been able to score more against Toledo's iffy defense. Harris is a respectable back, and he should have been able to provide an effective running game against a very young Toledo D-Line. Haldi was off, whether it was because of wind (the TV Crew mentioned it as a factor for both QBs), the Wolfe situation, pressure, or whatever. I did notice that Haldi was getting more pressure than normal, which suggests the OLine was not up to its normal standard. I believe there were also a couple critical drops by your WRs. Would Wolfe have made a difference? Some, certainly. However, even without him, to score just 17 against Toledo in DeKalb was unexpected.

Just my two cents. I'll let the in-house discussion continue.

With so many kids who'd never/barely started before, our defense was literally a blank slate at the beginning of the season. They had talent but no experience. We couldn't even stop the run with 8 men in the box. It was pathetic. Up to this week, the defense has improved visibly with every game... except for the secondary. I was really shocked to see us get pressure on Haldi because we had everyone covered. The DBs really played out of their minds and I hope this was just their week to show improvement.
