Supposedly, we will know by Christmas.
Interesting. I have found that reliable sources on the Temple message board are pretty non-existent. None of them really know what is going on.

Also, Temple recently announced their 2005 football schedule and they have several big games on it and some big payout games. I can't see them dropping that schedule. Maybe to the MAC in 2006, but I think it has to include some sort of basketball package too and Temple seemed to be against that before.
I had the same reaction. Their schedule is too damned good to be unloading games.

But, if you read down in that thread, the source publishes a Temple sports magazine.

We will see.
CMU hosts Temple in 2006. It would be cool if it were for a conference game. 04-rock
I would love to see Temple join the mac in all sports. But then the question becomes who is the other logical school to join? We don't want to be stuck with 13 members. I would look towards WKU, Umass or UD.

Not a problem. Temple will simply replace Miami once the Redskinnyhawks move to the Gateway.

Actually, if this all comes together for next season, we could be screwed. Temple is our nonconference home game.
Why would we be screwed? I'd think the league could easily incorporate the games into the MAC schedule. It would be pretty crappy for the MAC to hurt two of its own by taking a mandatory I-A game from us.
I don't see Temple joining the MAC at all. In fact, I see Temple dropping football after next year.
Ummmm . . . does anyone have any non-rectal sourcing for all this chatter?

It certainly doesn't square with what I was hearing the last time I cared enough about the subject to sound out the birdies.

No. Just Miami Hawk Talk.
The only thing I can say is that Chryst, who has done a sound job to this point, had better not lose his brain and let Temple into the MAC for football only. It's all or nothing as far as I'm concerned.

I think stealing a few TV spots from the A-10 in basketball would be a given.

Exactly. I've got one guy reporting something he read on "Owlscoop," which I don't know from a hole in the ground and may be owl cage litter as far as we know.

Let me see what I can find out from folks I know a little better than some random non-MSM dude in Philly.

Which would get the Owls out of a return trip to Oxford in 2006 according to the "unofficial" agreement (having Miami visit Philly in 2005).

And Temple to the MAC... yuck. Another perennial ESPN Bottom 10 Team to the MAC. With or without all sports... Temple as a member is NOT a good move. 05-nono

Of course if the Owls are looking for basketball ONLY ... 03-wink
I'am sure this year's MAC football success will factor into Temple's decision as to how much of their away basketball schedule will be given up to Chryst & Co. If it were to be my decision, I would accept Temple in football only if they would be willing to schedule all 12 MAC members, three different MAC teams a season for four consective years starting with the 2005-2006 season. From the MAC prospective, there would have to be a large buy out attached to each of these games. This senario would give each MAC basketball team a solid, probable sold out home game without a huge cost. I would also attach a huge exit fee if Temple football were to do a 360 within five years.
Good thoughts, Tomznj. As you state, it doesn' t necessarily have to be "all" (all sports inclusion) or "nothing" (football only with no b-ball commitments). What you propose might be a reasonable compromise, and it would be nice to see Temple on MAC home schedules guaranteed for a few years out.

But, I still wonder why we'd want a 13th member unless we have an eye on #14. (and least the Herdies point out that the MAC may lose members due to IA attendance, I don't "buy it"........just won't happen IMHO).

That would seem to be more likely. Temple won't draw well on a MAC schedule.

It may happen, but I doubt Ohio will be one of the casualties. Ohio used to be one of the biggest attendance liabilities in the MAC but for 10 straight years we've made the 15,000 buts in seats. All of our numbers are audited before they are released. We haven't announced are attendance for years.

Ohio is gearing up with a huge budget increase over the next couple of years so we can be prepared for the shakeup of 2010, according to our AD.
The MAC would get the Philly market, but not a good football program. Basketball wise, it would be a great move. However, playing a conference football game in front of 3,000 fans would be tough.
And also with Ohio, plans are to increase the school to 25,000 students which I'm sure won't hurt attendance.
