Well, the "final-final" results aren't in, but it appears that we'll likely have 5 MAC teams bowling, and that means that the long-overdue Huskies will finally get their "due" with a bowl slot.....congrats to all NIU fans.

NW is leading Hawaii, and should they win it looks like 5 MAC teams will be bowling this year.......pretty incredible stuff. It'll be interesting to see where everyone is placed!
Don't look now but Hawaii is up by 8 at the half.

If Hawaii beats NU (49-33 Hawaii in 4Q), next week Mich St. beats Hawaii, and Louisville beats Tulane, 6 MAC teams go bowling!! Who ever would have thought this would be possible after a 10-2 NIU team sat home last year? Unbelievable!!
Hawaii leads 49-33 with 8 minutes left.

For whatever reason, Hawaii is a world beater at home, but couldn't beat the little sisters of the poor on the road. The travel and setting must take all visiting teams out of their games. Sure hope no MAC teams have to play in the Hawaii Bowl against these guys.

The other participant is likely to be Alabama-Birmingham or something. The bowl gets third pick out of CUSA.
This is unbelievable for the MAC. Just a few years ago Miami was 10-1 and sitting home and Toledo was 10-1 and sitting home because the MAC got one bowl bid. Then last year NIU was sitting home at 10-2 because the MAC got two bowl bids. Now this year we have secured 3 bids, plus there looks to be 3 more because there are not enough bowl bids.

After this all happening this year, the NCAA will either accept the Big 12's bid to have 12 regular season games every year, or they will definitely not allow any new bowl games like that bowl in Toronto that was a possibility for the MAC.

Now we need to support these bowls very good, and maybe we can pick up a 3rd secure bid for next year.

Going to 12 games would make it even worse since you have to have a "winning record" to be bowl eligible. Instead of being 6-5, teams would need to be 7-5. I agree about new bowls though. Bye bye Toronto Bowl.

In past years that they allowed all teams to play 12 games, they let you go bowling with a 6-6 record.

Actually, it doesn't...the other 3 CUSA bowls after the GMAC conference call to decide who is going where. There actually is no pecking order.
Just friggin' awesome!!! 04-rock

And best of all is having Northwestern lose their first "bowl game", in order to not be eligible for a second. They take a hit, NIU goes bowling ahead of NU and UofI, and recruits start saying - "Hmmmm, UofI doens't have a coach and NU isn't even in a bowl.....I think I'll go to NIU"!!! 04-bow

My bad.

FWIW, Alabama-Birmingham has accepted a Hawaii Bowl bid.

rf,
Ain't it funny how all of a sudden the bowls NEED MAC teams???

We'll take as many as we can get!

I'll bet a $100 bill the NCAA allows 12 game skeds.
That's a sucker's bet now, FF. It's got to be just KILLING the "big boys" to see all THEIR bowl money going to the "little fellas" this year.

That might sound nice, but in all actuality, most of the bowls that will be getting left open by the big boys are $750,000 minimum payout bowls.
The one they are upset about is giving 13.5 million to non-BCS Utah and the Mountain West.
