It makes a ton of sense that Akron would get a conditional offer to Hawaii.

But let's take a step back.

Shoot, if you are player, I can't imagine you'd rather go any place else but Hawaii.

If you assume the MAC is working together on all this stuff... could we see a better team rewarded with the trip to Hawaii... even though it's the toughest to make work financially?
UAB officially accepted a bid to play in Hawaii. If Michigan State beats Hawaii, making the Rainbows ineligible, Akron could get the bid. That would be a good game, but the attendance would probably be terrible. If Hawaii doesn't play in that game I just can't see the attendance being very good.

I could see Akron going, because they would be able to sell because the have an "NFL prospect" at QB.
If Hawaii loses to MSU, Akron will be going to the Hawaii Bowl because they'll be the only bowl eligible team left unless Tulane beats UL (ain't likely!). MSU has nothing to play for, but they should be loads better than Hawaii.
No matter who plays in Hawaii, if the Rainbows are not playing the stands look totally deserted ( like less than 10,000 actual butts in the seats).

I see the logic.

I'm just observing that the whole rest of the league's players may be insanely jealous of the Zips if this happens.

Possibly true, but nonetheless good for Akron. In my eyes, a MAC team is a MAC team.
When these bowls play out, much will be made of the empty stands in many of them, but as I mentioned in another bowl thread, the MAC has no apologies to make as many, many bowls are played in half empty stadiums each and every year, and the BCS boyz make no apologies for taking their 6-5 teams (and 2,000 fans) to them! Obviously the Hawaii Bowl is always empty when Hawaii is not in the game........no difference this year whether it's Akron or some other team playing there.

Have you ever watched "The Hawai'i Bowl"? The stands are totally deserted even when Hawai'i plays. I have my fingers crossed.

Oh...like they aren't already insanely jealous of the Zips! 03-wink 03-wink 03-wink

Thanks for putting that one on the tee for me!
