Given the dwindling possibilities, I think UCONN is a good choice...........it's a relatively new IA program that is just "tasting" success, and should bring a nice fan contingent given that Detroit is not an inviting winter vista.
UConn's fans are going to be thrilled no matter where they go.

They've never been to a bowl, so they aren't spoiled by going to a Florida like bowl weather game.

They're from a chilly climate of their own, so Detroit won't bother them.

I'd expect at least 8-10,000 of them, and that could be short changing them considering they sold out every game this season.
I went to a game at UConn this season. Fans do show up, it's true. But there seemed a real lack of fire. I'm interested to see if this means they might not be the types to travel in droves, especially when they may have been expecting a "better" bowl.
It's their first bowl, so I'd tend to agree with HS that they will suppot it well.......not sure about 10K, but I wouldn't be shocked if they manage upwards of 7 or 8K to the game, about the same as NW last year. If Toledo hosts for the MAC, should be another good crowd........if Miami is in the game, we don't have the alumni base in greater Detroit nor nearby students so the attendance will be somewhat less I would think. My guess would be 45K with UT, and 35-40K with Miami.

Actually it is quite inviting.Ford Field is a great venue with perfect conditions for players and fans.Detroit has casinos and Windsor has some fun nightlife. If it were colder, you could ski and snowmobile close by.Plus some great places to eat and drink. Sounds like a nice long weekend to me.

UConn Accepts Motor City Bowl Invitation
2:03 PM EST,November 30, 2004
By TERRY PRICE, The Hartford Courant

The UConn football team has accepted an invitation to play in the Motor City Bowl, according to a source. UConn was to make an official announcement at 4 p.m.

It is the first bowl invitation for the school.

The Motor City Bowl is Dec. 27 in Detroit at Ford Field, and will be aired at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN. The Huskies (7-4) will play the MAC champion, either Miami of Ohio or Toledo. Miami and Toledo play in the MAC championship game on Thursday night, with the winner advancing to the Motor City Bowl.

UConn earned a bowl bid in only its third season as a full-fledged Division I-A program. The Huskies were 3-3 in their first season in the Big East. They also were mentioned for the Continental Tire Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., Dec. 30, but Boston College took that bid.

Looks like Toledo might get to play UCONN this season after all. :D

For those that don't know, last October UCONN backed out of a 1 for 1 deal that had UCONN at the Glass Bowl this year and Toledo playing at UCONN in 2005.

Only because UConn had to completely revamp their schedule as a result of being admitted to the Big East a year earlier than originally planned.

Yeah, right. 03-lol

It's one thing if Toledo had went to UConn and then UConn backed out of the return date, but they backed out of the deal completely. Considering the fact that UConn was a red-hot program last year I doubt they were "scared" of Toledo.

Then why did you drop Toledo from your schedule, but not Buffalo? You knew you could beat Buffalo!

Then why did they drop Toledo, but leave Buffalo on their schedule? In fact, they even left Western Michigan on their schedule and in the early Spring WMU dropped UCONN.

Anything you say, pookie.

UConn moved up to 1-A about the same time Buffalo did. At that time, the former UConn AD signed some ridiculous long term deal with Buffalo. Unfortunately, while UConn has progressed, Buffalo hasn't been as successful, I'm sorry to say.

In any event, without knowing all the details, I'm sure trying to get out of such a long term deal would not be the smartest financial move on any school's part.

Umm, coming into this year there was two games left in the Buffalo/UCONN series. One in 2004 and one in 2005. That was the same as what Toledo and UCONN had. Same as Western Michigan and UCONN too.

Nice try though.
Let's be honest.

UConn went chicken $hit and dropped Toledo in favor or easier wins.

Listen, Rocketboy. I didn't come over here to get in some little p*ssing match with a Toledo fan about scheduling. I could give a rat's a$$ about Toledo or why the UConn/Toledo game never happened.

My only reason for contributing to this thread was to post a follow-up article from my local paper regarding UConn playing the MAC champ in the Motor City Bowl. If that ends up being you, great. I look forward to an exciting game, but know this: UConn won't be trembling in it's boots if it has to play the 'mighty Toledo Rockets', OK, skippy. Take care.

How about if UConn really goes chicken $hit and schedules the 0-11 Golden Knights?

That's fine.

We'd feel so special about scheduling the national Big East power UConn 03-lol

Ticket sales would be 2 miles long, I'm sure.
