Mr. Ho predict good time! No care 'bout score, unless of course we win.
Troy 24- NIU 10 (held to less than 100 yards rushing -ouch!)

GO TROY!!!!!!
I do worry about the conditioning of being off for more than a month. That will be a big factor for our team.

I think its going to be more high scoring then people think...NIU at times has a pretty explosive offense. At other times (2nd half of Toledo game) it can look aweful. As long as G Dub gets over 30 carries, I don't see NIU losing. Troy might score more then the 21 I predicted because our defense is not that great, but I still think NIU will beat Troy.

Seriously I say 28-17 NIU. Wolfe runs for 160 and 2 TD's. Haldi throws for 250 yards and 2 TD's.
Of course, I am never right so take it for what it is worth.

u troy state fans are underestimating our offense. We will score more than 24. Lowest we have scored is 20 (against SIU). Runner up is 23 (against maryland), But, we had Phil Horvath (our backup QB) in and he wasnt prepared at all. Plus, those were the 1st 2 games of the season. Since then, our average score has been 40 points a game, our lowest being 30.
And I don't think Troy State's offense will be able to do all that much to our d, from what I hear they arn't too well of passers, they rely on their running game (from what I understand. correct me if im wrong) and IMO our running D aint all that bad, its our secondary that needs major improvement.
NIU: 31
Troy State: 21

We rely heavily on a running game and haven't had too much success in our passing game. Playcalling has been our achilles heel at many of our road games (losses to Ark. St. and NMSU). However, after the loss to Ark. St., our head coach took over some of the offensive playcalling duties and our offense showed some improvement.
If your defensive secondary is a concern, that might help us out a little bit. I guess we'll wait and see.

I think it will be a good game....I bet we take control inthe second quarter after all the jitters go away and their D isnt overly psyched anymore. We will lead by two TDs at the half...however as always we will get conservative, and they will creap back into it on a Haldi turnover and by the forth quarter will be within a fieldgoal....then finally taking the lead. In the end, however, Nednick will put us over the top...probably in the last 40 seconds or so....
end result...
NIU 34
Troy 31
(Now, if that actually all comes true, I am gunna look like a f....ing genius!)

Any time TROY scores 24 points or more, they win. Betterson has been running over defenders all year, and when he can't run over one, he tosses it to Louissaint who runs it in for a touchdown. Betterson is normally dragged down from behind.
If you stop the run, DT will throw it up and Samples or Cray will make one of the most amazing catches you will ever see in the corner of the end zone. If that doesn't work, DT will toss it to Samples who will either throw it back to DT 20 yards down the field, or find a wide open reciever in the end zone. If you defend that well, Samples will tuck it and run downfield.
My prediction: A good game. Huskies 17 TROJANS 28. :)

Haldi is key to this game. If we come out throwing and loosen them up for the run, we win handily, but Haldi needs to be sharp. Wolfe will run for 150, poor by his standards.
Final score:

TU 21
Haldi MVP

Troy puts all its money in stopping Wolfe...Wolfe gets only 90 yards rushing. However, Haldi goes nuts throwing for 250+ with 3 TDs. Two of those TD's go to fellow senior sheldon.
NIU - 31
Troy - 24
The NIU defense comes out in their usual "bend but don't completely break" defense. Troy will put up some points.
Here is my concern...NIU can be in trouble if Troy can put together some long drives with points attached, taking huge chunks off the clock forcing the NIU offense and special teams to come up with some big plays to stay in the game.
I think that this is a very underrated bowl game!! Should be a very good game between two evenly matched teams who have a lot to play for. It is just a shame that more people nationwide won't be able to see it because of the start time.

Most of your predictions have scores that are too high. Even if NIU wins this game, it won't get out of the twenties. Troy has arguably the best defense NIU will have faced this season and on the other side of the ball, Troy's offense is not a scoring machine.
I'll stay with my earlier pick.
Troy - 20
NIU - 16

Momentum trends... regardless of score (high or low) NIU will get a quick lead and keep it the entire game. NIU will score 75% of their points in the first half. NIU will allow Troy to creep back into this one (a la: Southern Illiniois, Central Florida, Ball State etc.) A late TD will give us a larger margin, but Troy will have pulled within one score before that. We will be soiling ourselves about mid-way through the 4th quarter (a la: Southern Illiniois, Central Florida, Ball State etc.) - then the late score.
I'm sticking with...
NIU - 31
Troy - 17

Football Classic MVP - Josh Haldi
Garrett Wolfe gets shut down but Josh Haldi rises to the ocassion unlike his past performances in "must win" games. Brad Cieslak and Dan Sheldon have nice games as well.
