Whos band was better?

Troy or NIU
I am not even going to answer, because EVERYONE at the game knows the answer. Let me just say, Troys band got a standing O from our fans. That has not happened since Ohio U came to DeKalb.
whats the big deal about Troys band?
I think I read on one of the posts before the game that their band is something like 300-strong and VERY good.
My God, football season has finally degenerated into marching band smack.

It's over, guys.
are they kinda like the bands that are in the movie "Drumline" ?

would like to see that

You're thinking of a band from a Historically Black College or University. The Tennessee State University Aristocrat of Bands does that, and I'm sure other HBCU's do that as well.

As for Troy's band, they aren't all into kicking up their knees and tilting the bodies this way and that with every step, but they put out the sound and the choice of music that entertains today's audience, and that is why they are one of the best in the nation. I didn't attend the SVC, but I'm going to tell you that Troy's South of the South blew Northern Illinois' band out of the stadium.

Middle Tennessee also has a heralded marching band program. It's not as big as Troy's though I remember the MTSU Band of Blue being well over 300 members in size even when I was there. The MTSU Band of Blue is probably about 250-270 members in size today.

Middle Tennessee and Troy have great marching band programs and are considered the two best in the Sun Belt. Akron fans that travel to MTSU will get to see the Band of Blue next year. MTSU vs Troy football games are always a treat! The bands never let a dull moment show up.

They broadcast that scene on the jumbotron in the Convo and at Huskie Stadium during the waning seconds of games in which we find ourselves trailing.

It was very thoughtful of Belushi to wear a fetching, Huskie-colored cardinal and black sweater for that speech. 03-lol
Because of my hobby of traveling to a different college stadium each week during the year, I get to see a variety of marching bands. I have been to some 79 different college football stadiums during the past 9 years and for my taste these are the top bands I have seen, and in no particular order either:

Michigan
Texas A&M
Southern California
Ohio State
Wisconsin
Notre Dame
Kansas
Texas
LSU
Oregon
Florida State
Missouri
Auburn
Next year, travel to Troy, Al...you won't be dissapointed.

Nice to see someone still enjoys the classic type marching band.

A majority of the bands on the list are traditional type styles. They are an 8 to 5 high step pregame with a fan friendly show style for halftime.

The A&M band is straight military and one I want to see live before I die.

Troy is a corp style band (like many bands are going to). Horns front. Playing to one side of the stadium. Shifting a-symetric formations. Fairly difficult music. And spaceman looking uniforms. BG is going corp and I'm not a huge fan of it (although they continue with the traditional pregame, thankfully).

I'm rather surprised to see Kansas on the list. I never thought of them having a top notch marching band. Their music school is more known for their sit down bands and orchestras.
Much as I dislike WVU, they have a really good band.

Perhaps NIU would have a better band if the freshmen (who would have been senior band members this year) hadn't been trampled in the tragic practice field dispute of 2001(?).

The Dirty Jogging Egg Band (they wore pith helmets if memory serves) must have improved since I last saw them in '91.

My ears bled for 'bout a week after that experience.

If you don't have facts on your side, ya might as well sling mud.

Single most irrelevant argument, ever.
I have seen Troy's band, but not at their place. Several years ago they played here for a half time at one of the Falcon's games. Very good band, indeed!
The A&M band is like no other. Nearly 400, in military uniforms and non-stop for 12 minutes. Switching various block formations, making trapezoids, rectangles, and other designs. Their famed "Aggie War Hymn" fight song is the longest in college sports, it lasts some 3 minutes and 20 seconds.

As for Kansas, a small band, about 150, extremely good musically, but it's their entrance which is unique. They enter from the stands. They high step from various entrance stands in one of the end zones onto the field. I have not seen another band enter from the stands.

Texas A&M's band is regarded as the best marching band in the nation. It wasn't too long ago that they won an award presented by I think one of the national sports stations like ESPN. The award was given to the best collegiate marching band in the nation. I bet the Aggies' band is a spectacle for sure!
