While football recruiting is not over, The Insiders has ranked the classes so far. I noticed that they did not list Michael Machen, the plum QB JUCO transfer for Kent State, so do not know who else they may have missed.

Rankings are 1-100 with many ties. No MAC schools in Top 50.

# 71- NIU
# 74- Akron
# 76 - CMU
# 77 - BGSU
# 83 - BSU
# 85- Toledo ( tie)
# 85 - Buffalo (tie)
# 88 - Miami
# 89 - Kent State
# 102- EMU (tie)
#102 - WMU (tie)

Not ranked in Top 100 but in contained in an unranked list at the bottom- Ohio University

FWIW, CFU ( that's the way it's listed, KT, so blast them, not me) is # 65,which would be the best in the MAC so far and Marshall is #97, which would be near the bottom.
Ohio University is a school that has no verbals at this point because of the coaching change. Wait a couple of weeks to pass judgement on our class.

Marshall always gets off to a slow start in recruiting but tends to have a nice finish down the stretch. Still they've been out recruited by some of the top MAC schools in recent years.

For God's sakes....how hard is it to say "UCF". Some of these so called "recognized" sports sources are truly idiots.

As for our recruiting ranking- it's good. I've been looking at our athletes, we have many 3 star players and 2 4 star players. O'Leary is doing very well this year.

Hopefully it will translate into wins......soon.
Just for the sake of viewing them- does anyone have the CUSA, MWC, WAC, and Sun Belt rankings?
these rankings are worthless for schools like MAC schools.

It is like reporting the winner of a race for governor of Michigan 15 minutes after the polls close.

Like few votes are tallied and don't know if they are from Detroit or Grand Rapids.

I believe EMU has 17 verbals yet only a couple are included in those rankings by Insiders or Rivals.

For some schools their recruits are known by the recruiting gurus; the opposite for other schools.

Depends if the school has a good fan sites like UCF's, Miamis, UTs, CMU, BG, etc.

OR how well the state's recruits are known by national gurus.

Coach change-overs are tough on recuiting

Give WMU's and OU's new coaches a chance to catch up. In a week or two their rankings will be higher.
The Insiders and Rivals blow goats. They do a great job of tracking where the "bigtime" recruits are going and they have next to no idea who the quality kids in the mid major programs sites are.
For example, Omar jacobs was a ** recruit according to rivals while Magner, Sharon, Sanders and Pope were completely off the radar.

I think there's more than one "bigtime" program that would like to have those players today....

Of course. UT would take Jacobs and Pope right now as I am sure many other big time programs would.

You can keep Magner, Alligator Arms, and Sanders though. 03-wink

Wow, Houston is doing quite well so far. (if you put stock in the recruing agencies)

Your point is sound.

But, in fairness, Omar and Magner fell through coaches' cracks, too. (forget off hand how we landed Sanders and Pope).

Kansas State was the only BCS program looking at Omar ... and when they opted to go in another direction, only Buffalo and Florida Atlantic or something were on him. Part of the problem: People kept confusing him with someone else with a similar name.

Almost no one knew about Magner. He apparently came down from Alaska to attend a coaches camp in Colorado. That's where Brandon saw him.

As soon as Brandon and Meyer ended up in Bowling Green, Brandon called him up and brought him in. We were his only offer, I think.

Some say Magner has a shot of getting drafted. He has an agent.

That surprises me, too -- but it looks like he'll end up in camp with someone.

Yeah, I was just messing with you anyway. I hope anyone from the MAC with a chance does well.

NIU has a good class this year. Due to another winning season, a bowl victory and another huge factor are all the problems going on at Illinois, which is fine.
Does this happen to other MAC schools. A guy will be listed as 3 stars, then he gives his verbal to NIU and is dropped to 2 stars. So just cause he choose NIU over a BCS school he must not be as good as reported. That just pisses me off. So yeah, you can't go by these rankings for MAC schools cause they aren't that accurate.

Nope, just to NIU. They must figure that anyone who is dumb enough to go to NIU can't be worth 3 stars.

Just kidding. It happens to us all. :D
The Insiders information isn't accurate anyway. Toledo has 3 or 4 verbals that they don't even list as having any interest in Toledo at all.

The problem with the Insiders is that they don't really keep up on some of the MAC school's recruits too well.
I'm bemused that there's even a ranking of current recruiting classes a mere week after New Years Day.

Apparently, so is the Broncos' coaching staff. It's not that early...about a month left to National Signing Day.

Besides, we rate everything else while the season is ongoing, why not recruiting? Early signed commitment letters count, too.

I believe P.J. Fleck was completely off the radar as well. Michael Turner too, only had interest from NIU. So, yeah, the scouts don't know enough to rank these schools. But they can sell magazines if they pretend they do.
Alex Smith the QB from Utah and Dante Ridgeway were both 2nd team all-americans this year. Both were rated with two stars coming out of high school according to Rivals.
