Northern Illinois will be playing Ohio State in football on 9/02/2006. The location is TBD and there is a small rumor that it might be played at Soldier Field, however I believe it will be at Ohio Stadium.

NIU is really doing a nice job of scheduling. They have played Maryland, Iowa State, and Alabama recently. Now the play Michigan in 2005 and Ohio State in 2006.

Congrats to NIU and good luck.

That would be great to get that game at Soldier Field.
Nice! I love our 2 game series with Wisconsin the next 2 seasons. Let's take down the Big 10!! 04-rock
Maybe we can get Ohio State (oh, I'm sorry, THE Ohio State University) to come to DeKalb - we'll give all their players a few extra ears of corn for their trouble. :)

Throw in a cell phone and you got a deal. :D
I'm pretty sure the game wouldn't happen at Soldier Field if it would've been an NIU home game. Ohio State would probably sell out Huskie Stadium, and there's no way the school would pass up that much money. I also doubt Ohio State would want to fork over the money to travel to Chicago when they could instead have that game at the Horseshoe, where more OSU fans would be able to make the game, and which has a larger seating capacity than Soldier Field anyway. :)

It would probably take two kinds of hummers, too.

Okay, but all the corn stalks might interfere with your cellphone reception. Might have to wait until all the corn is harvested. :D

That's exactly the issue. OSU was scheduled to play at San Diego St. 2 years ago, but the city of Cleveland stepped in and offered SDSU and OSU "x" amount of dollars to move it to Cleveland Browns Stadium. When it was determined that $ amount was less than what OSU would generate by filling the 'Shoe, the game was moved to Columbus and SDSU still received a bigger payout than if the game was played in Cleveland, or the revenue generated by a home game in San Diego.

Looking forward to the match-up.

BTW, is Wisconsin/BGSU still slated for Cleveland? Do the BG folks expect that to happen?

Yes, and yes.

I've heard no differently (for whatever that's worth.)

The difference being, BG is supposed to play at Wisc, and UW doesn't have a 105K stadium, as per Columbus. So Cleveland stadium is more on par w/ their facility.

Not with our new endzone seating. 03-razz
No way that Ohio State would not play NIU at home....... they all ready have an OOC road game in 2006 with their return game to Texas, and remember they had EIGHT home games in 2002 so even if the 12-game sched becomes permanent that year it wouldn't matter....... Can't wait 'til 9/3/05, though.....
They have 8 home games in 2005 with only 4 road games. It's called scheduling a national championship. It worked for them in 2002. When OSU played a neutral site game at Paul Brown Stadium against UC that year they came as close to losing as they did all year. I don't think they want to run that risk again
Weren't most of OSU's games in 2002 as close as the UC game?

I agree though, the ability to schedule 8 home games has it's advantages. But, until schools start refusing to come to Columbus to play, and more importantly, get paid, you can't complain too much.
