Now this link is to a post on Mark's board regarding gifts to the players for earning their place in the MACC and MCB.
I don't know whether the critical posts are from legitimate fans. But, I feel that the guys deserve the gifts. The points made about scholarships and other athletic needs are well taken. But, let's face it, due to NCAA reg's there are very few opportunities for the players to receive gifts like this. And when you have situations where some fool Freshman RB at Ohio State is given a Cadillac to drive just for showing up, it makes a video camera awarded for doing a good job and playing by the rules look pretty meager in comparison.
Certainly the university and athletic department have needs, and students pay a lot for tuition. But, when the money is there to reward the players for a job well done, I think generosity is appropriate.
