Per The Blade, Toledo's Rodney Gamby was arrested for selling drugs (OxyContin) and kicked off of the football team.
Toledo Tom is really getting tough on his players!

The article is not on the electronic edition yet, but appears on the "Second News" section of the Saturday lade

And with that, 50 long years of juvenile country-bumpkin jokes hurled at Bowling Green from Toledo fans finally came to an end.

thank god....

i did not like him as a player - too small.....too slow....but he did play with a lot of intensity
also coming to an end, is the slim chance that Toledo had to get a 2 million dollar "Bubble" indoor football practice facility. I hope i'am wrong about that.
I'm sure if Toledo Tom needs him, he'll do a little rehab/therapy and be back on the team in time for spring practice!!
True story from a friend of mine who practices in the hills and hollers of southern West Virginia.

He got appointed to represent a girl who had been charged with selling OxyContin to undercover DEA agents. The prosecutor called my buddy and told him that he really considered her a small fish and was willing to cut a deal if she'd roll over on her suppliers. Well my buddy and his appointed client went to the meeting and she was more than a bit haughty.

You won't get the full effect if you don't imagine someone with a serious hillbilly accent saying, very loudly, while shaking her head back and forth, "y'all ain't got ****** on me. Y'all ain't got ****** on me." To which, the prosecutor replied very calmly, "Is this your voice on this tape?" Click. "Hey!!! Y'all wanna buy some oxy?" Click.

At which point she started boohooing about being addicted and at which point the prosecutor called my buddy back to his office and they both started laughing hysterically.
This isn't the first time a UT football player got arrested for selling drugs, although the first time it was a guy who did it before his freshman season even started and he was immediately kicked off the team and was never allowed back on. Of course he wasn't selling prescription pain killers like Gamby did either.

Anyway, Amstutz has already said that Gamby will not be allowed back on the team.

Factman - you shouldn't talk about what you think Toledo Tom is going to do because we already know about Greg Brandon's morals and the things he lets his athletes get away with. 03-wink

Too bad about Gamby.

Good for Amstutz.

Typical of BG fans.
Something that hasn't been said here........despite saying that Gamby is finished in terms of the Toledo football program, Amstutz said that he will continue to support Gamby as an individual and help him in any way he can.

Amstutz really cares about these kids and wants them to succeed in life, not just football. We are very lucky to have a coach that cares so much about these young students.
Sorry to hear about that Rocket fans. Amstutz obviously did the right thing and the only thing he could do. Talk about a guy in high school and was talked about so much. I personally think he was a bust to begin with, even before this problem. Painkillers are so easy to get. I was on a different kind of painkiller for neck problems that I had from exercising, but nothing could've stopped me from making a few extra bucks. This type of stuff is so easy to do and I'm sure that's what he was thinking.

Was Gamby going to help pay for the bubble out of his Oxy sales?
Sad to hear about Gamby's problems or anyone else with drug issues.
Amstutz sent a strong message to the team and the community. As for
the country humor-"If the pumpkin fits...".
If you would read the WHOLE article, it obviously is not permanent, because in the next to last paragraph, Gamby says "he hopes to return to the team".
I am sure he'll be suspended until the first day of Spring practice!!!!Probably have to lift on his own until then and see a conselor or something. Some more "tough love" from Tom!

What makes you an expert on Toledo football? You don't even get your facts right on BG football.

I don't care what Gamby said and what the Blade says. Unless things change, Amstutz has said that Gamby's football career at Toledo is over!

And again......you shouldn't be talking about "tough love" from a coach seeing that Greg Brandon is your coach. If you knew some of the things he has covered up, which I think you know of at least one in particular, you would think you would keep your mouth shut about going easy. Especially when a guy was kicked off the team. :withstupid:
If he does return, I fully expect each and every sanctimonious Cribbs basher on this board to follow suit accordingly.

Here we see a typical example of the kind of "fact" that his screen name is referring to.

His dismissal from the team is "obviously" not permanent because the guy being charged by the police hopes to come back some day? Are you a customer of his or are you just that stupid? I bet he also hopes he won't be prosecuted, but that doesn't make it so.

There's a difference between reading and comprehension. Try repeating 4th grade (again) and see if you can pick that skill up.

rf,

What, exactly, has Gregg Brandon covered up? Do you know something we don't?

You asked Factman "What makes you an expert on Toledo football".

Well, what makes you an expert on BG football?

So tell me, what has Brandon covered up?

Can you honestly say that UT runs a cleaner program than BG?

I would not say that either program is cleaner than the other. I do have some information that I believe to be reliable though that someone at BG (assuming Brandon as the head coach knows about it) covered up an incident with a football player that involved the BGSU police during this past season.

You have info that YOU believe is reliable concerning ONE incident?
I think you are referring to Matt Leininger, who was suspended for the 1st two games of 2004 and never got his starting position back.
He was arrested for DWI in November after the UT game and was kicked off the team for good. He is no longer a Falcon, I'm sorry to say, cuz I really like Matt and he was a good player.

How many incidents has UT had over the last few seasons? Seriously.

rf, you are a knowledgable dude and, most of the time, have legit stuff. But this one is totally off. BG runs a cleaner program...period. And our program has been honored 6 times in the last 8 years for graduation rates of 70% or better.

That is not the incident. It happened during the season this year and it was a wide receiver.

As for things happening, they are gonna happen. What you have to judge is how the coaching staff reacts. Amstutz really cares about these kids and he helps them out. There have been players that have been kicked off the team and not let back on so you can't say that he is not disciplining them.
