The Toledo Blade says that an ESPN game between Toledo and Fresno State is in the works for September of next year. It would be at Fresno and followed up in the future with a Fresno St. appearance at Toledo. The Blade reports that ESPN and MAC Commissioner Chryst are working hard to get this done.

How could this happen?

It has been frequently attested to by Oddball and other "in the know" Toledo fans that ESPN and especially Commissioner Chryst have repeatedly put down Toledo and shown favor to others. The last example, they claim, was in the way Chryst handled the MAC matchups for Bowl Games.

Again, as for the Toledo-Fresno St. matchup, how could this happen with so many odds stacked against Toledo?

Oh well, count me as one MAC fan who is glad that somehow, someway, these odds were overcome.
Just like how we got on ESPN/ESPN2 7 times this past season even with the odds stacked against us. Just imagine how many times we would have been on if Chryst would have actually pushed for us. 03-wink

Bad situations sometimes improve after a time. Sometimes people realize they were betting on the wrong horse, etc. Disputes and disagreements get resolved. This past season, when Chryst was no longer coddling our problem child program, the results were apparent. Did you miss that?

There is even hope that someone like yourself could become intelligent enough to see those things. However, I won't hold my breath.

Toledo fans whining? What a huge surprise.

Sounds a lot like what was heard on I-75 between Lucas and Wood county late on the evening of 11/23. 03-lol
It may sound alike at first, but you simply must fine tune your ears to recognize the difference between crying after a difficult loss to a chief rival and whining about supposed preferential treatment from the mean ol' commish.

Especially when their real stud bolts for another pasture. 03-wink

Yeah, that UCF will really be missed.

you know you love us. 04-rock
The MAC or Rick Chryst has never been against Toledo. The conference and their leaders do value each and every school within the league and do what they can to promote and trumpet the successes of each individual school.

Now, not that I'm shocked that a TMSU fan would be more knowledgeable about the UT program than I, but am I missing something? I don't remember hearing anyone cry about the respect from ESPN. I mean, we were on the network 7 times this past season.

Now THAT'S funny :D
I will admit that back in 2001 when Toledo would not move the Minnesota game to a Friday night we took a hit from ESPN. However, that slowly started to change in 2003 with 3 or 4 games on ESPN Networks and then 7 last year.

I know I could be wrong in my opinion, but I believe ESPN was a little against us when we told them no to the Minnesota game. But like Oddball says, things change.

As for Chryst, I don't know that anyone can prove that he has been against for for Toledo at any time. It would be hard to believe, in reality, that the commisioner of the conference you belong to would be purposely doing things to put your school down; but it would be easy for fans to interpret his actions, in some situations, the wrong way.

Toledo burned Chryst at the same time that they burned ESPN. I believe that we suffered because of it. While that is open to discussion, if it is the case, apparently we're out of the doghouse with both.

Excellent, rational point. Yes, I know that's a rarity in these parts. 03-razz
