How about these for divisions:
Mascots that fly:
BG
Ball St
E Mich
Kent (I guess, what's a Zip anyway?)
Miami (OH)
Toledo
Ground-based mascots:
Akron
Buff
C Mich
NIU
Ohio
W Mich
Then Temple joins the former and WKU joins the latter.

Who doesn't confuse those two?

Oh, I guess I mean Golden Flashes. Oh well, Kent=Akron=Irrelevant U.
That ought to make some friends.
However, the point is well taken. If they try to arrange the MAC along some mythical Geographical lines, you end up with the situation where BG and UT, two schools a stone's throw from each other are not in the same division. Might as well use mascots or the Ohio/Elsewhere Divisions someone suggested.
Or we could have a Flagship Division. Where OU just plays with itself all the time.....

 I really feel bad of all the other Ohio fans. Kit-Cat does them no justice.
rather than E/W divisions for football and hoops only, perhaps alignments N/S or something like divisional colors makes some sense if BSU goes to "east"
