That seems suprising to me, you would think with all that success that Clarke had at Toledo the past few years, that would be a good selling point for TE's. Especially given all the turmoil wmu has been going through. They must have really sold him on his potential role in their offense.

It's those facilites!
Actually when he decommitted we offered DE/TE Tom Burzine from Connetquot High School in Bohemia, New York and he committed to us when we offered.

Would have been nice to get Matt Stevens, but maybe he felt better about playing time at WMU. We already have 3 strong tight ends coming back next year, 1 tight end that redshirted, and 3 committed to this year's recruiting class.

Well, WMU's new head coach when to the same high school as Matt Stevens, and one of Steven's high school teammates had committed to WMU also so I wouldn't be surprised if that all weighed heavily on his decision.

AHHHH thanks for the enlightenment there RF, that sounds reasonable then I didnt know that. But really I wouldnt feel that bad, who cares about tight ends anyway :)
I don't think WMU HC is from IL.
Yeah RF, I think you are wrong. I think you might be thinking of Tim Lester who played at WMU and is from the Chicagoland area. I think he may be quarterbacks coach or may have been promoted to OC.

Tim Lester from WWS.

So he is part right. A coach on the staff is from Wheaton and went to WWS.

My bad. I meant Tim Lester, not the head coach. I believe Lester is the one that recruited Matt Stevens for WMU.

Also something to look at is WMU is trying to copy what NIU is doing, get kids from WISC and IL. They seem to be doing an OK job of it this year, but I think they are a little behind the curve, but that won't stop this board from listing them as the biggest upset threat we have next year. With of course our friends BSU.

Anybody notice that those dudes from Kalamazoo are having a great recruiting season? Pretty sweet for them considering they have a brand new head coach. I went to the game in Kalamazoo this year. That place is pretty cool for football.

Define great recruiting season>?

I have yet to see a 3 star or top 50 position guy give them a verbal, while that have a high number of players they appear to be guys who were passed over by NIU, BGSU, TOLEDO and the BIG 10 schools. Not saying they are bad, but saying that this class is average would not be a reach.
I would not classify their recruiting as great. Every Illinois kid that has verbaled was not offered by us. That is not to say that they won't turn out to be productive players, but they did not beat us on anyone, including Matt Stevens.

WMU has had solid classes the past 3 or 4 seasons, it's their coaching that did them in.

I agree. Solid, but not great classes.

From what I have been hearing...............NIU, Toledo, BG, Ball State, Miami, and Akron are having some very good recruiting classes this year.

I don't think it will be long before Ball State will be an annual challenger for a MAC championship.

Akron might get the best recruit.QB Carlton Jackson-Player of the Year in S.Fl. 6'3" 190 lbs. 4.5/40.Rivals rates him a Top 50 Athlete in US.
Another great QB in the MAC.
