Way to go, Charlie. 10-12, 138 yards and 1 touchdown. Way to represent the MAC! 04-bow
Charlie looked like an NFL QB today. His stock had to go up today. 04-bow

He did a good job. 04-rock
10-12 with two dropped balls (one for another TD) and the MVP of the Senior Bowl and the Toledo dolt says "good job".

Just another example of the MAC snobbery against anything from Akron. Go ahead and keep underestimating the Zips because the changes have been made, facilities have been and are being built, and the leadership is in place to dominate the MAC. It may not happen overnight but nothing good ever does.

Can't wait to hear from the Toledo, Kent, Miami, and BG fans who have been dogging Frye for the past year, calling him a lightweight and dogging his NFL chances. Not only was he the MVP of the Senior Bowl but he was also named the North Team's Captain before the game by his teammates.

Frye is going to be a prime time player, just like former AKRON Senior Bowl MVP's like JASON TAYLOR (1997) and DWIGHT SMITH (2001). Akron is the ONLY team in NCAA history with 3 Senior Bowl MVP's.

Frye may not be a starter in year one and for my money I hope he gets the chance to go and learn behind on the NFL's old dogs for a season or two.

Rock on Charlie... the first of many great players to come from UA in the 21st century... FEAR THE ROO! 04-rock

WTF do you want him to say? He did do a good job. That is called a compliment. I realize that your football team isn't used to getting them, but nonetheless that is what they sound like. Until you're used to it, we'll just write it off as you just needing a diaper change.
Congrats to Charlie Frye and Akron. Between him and Nugent I would say Ohio was well represented.

Go Zips and Go Bucks!

Shakkrocket,

Realist isn't that far off. "Good Job" is what you say to the oppsing team after the game when you wiped the floor with them. The teams meet at midfield or center court and all you hear is "good job, good job, nice game."

How about saying "Awesome Charlie!!" Or how about "we were all wrong about Charlie Frye" for a start? The guy played his heart out for a mediocre team and this board never gave him his props...

He takes center stage against the best the NCAA has to offer and wins the Senior Bowl MVP and you say "Good Job?"

We've all had to sit here and read all the Rocket posts about Bruce and all the BG posts on Omar... How about really giving a good guy his due??

Yeah, we are a little sensitive around here. Mainly because there hasn't been a whole lot to be proud of in recent memory. Football took a nose dive after we made the jump to 1A and basketball dropped off the map after Huggins left for Cincinnati.

So we want to bask in it a little.

Here goes:

1) Football -- finished 6-5 overall and 6-2 MAC East and one game away from a MAC Championship game appearance. New fieldhouse, new practice facilities and a real coach and there's talk of a brand new football stadium!! Potential recruits actually saying nice things about what's happening in Akron. Frye's performance just makes it even more sweet!!!

2) Basketball -- Same players, new coach, 12-5 and 6-3 MAC EAST with game @ Miami for 1st place Sunday...UNBELIEVABLE!!!

It seems to me that UA administration is finally committed to raising the level of Zips athletics. It's decades overdue and I never thought I'd live to see the day...

Thank you for letting me gloat for a moment... it's been so long...

We haven't won anything yet, I know that -- but until this year, we weren't even in the same conference as the rest of you...

Could I have my hug now????
Out-freakin'-standing game by Frye! He's the best QB ever to play in the MAC. I can't believe how good he was. I've never seen anything like him. Just unreal. Wow! Holy crap! Unbelievable!

How's that? 03-wink
You can have YOUR hug, but that's it. Oddball's post was, and I quote:

Quote: He did a good job. rock.gif
That includes the little guy with the ROCK ON thing going 04-rock . Geez, Frye has been complimented on this board by fans from any number of schools, including Toledo. Granted, it usually comes along with some kind of comment that he's the only talent on the team (which I couldn't vouch for one way or the other), but cripe. When a guy from another school offers a compliment, why not just take it as a compliment and not ***** about it?

Oh, and btw...

Great job today Charlie. Wish I could have seen the game.
Frye will also be featured in the next outside the lines show on ESPN. They will go behind the scenes of the Senior Bowl, and all that goes into it through the eyes of Charlie Frye. Way to go Charlie, possibly the next great MAC QB in the NFL.

I hope it did. Mel Kiper mentioned that his stock has fallen in the last week or so and he expected him as a 3rd round pick. That was before the game today, so hopefully the scouts take notice of his performance.

Sheesh ladd, get off yer matyrdom funeral pyre and soapbox.
I know for a fact that folks here and about the MAC all realised Frye was a good QB all along.
What hurt him most was a pourous D and a weak front 5 most of the time, that and some very special players on opposing teams getting the highlights and headlines.

Don't generalize MAC fans in a wide brushstroke statement like that, makes you look the fool and like a pissy wanker crying for attention. I'm one who thinks you're mostly whining and bitching just to stir up trouble, and likely could care less about Frye. You just need something to grasp upon to get attention.

I'm a MAC fan after my Alma mater, and I know good players when I see them. I covered sports professionally for a bit as a writer, and have done scouting reports before too. Frye has all the tools, and suffered mostly due to coaching changes, a meager front 4-5 for most of his career and perception.

Well the world knows the reality of the MAC now. We're a QB league and I wouldn't be surprised to see 7-8 MAC QBs in the next 5 years being starters in the NFL.
We've 3 now (Roethlisberger, Pennington, and LOrd Byron "Whatchatalkingboutwillis" Leftwich, Batch is still active, Frye will get drafted and play, heck even BGSU's own might find a start in Cleaveland next season...

PFragh, said more than I wanted too, but anyways MAC has fine players, don't let rivalry chatter color the truth. The MAC is full of NFL caliber players and this will continue.

Here's a much needed dose of Charlie-love from Marla Ridenour of the Beacon:

I liked the part about the opposing coach (Gruden) interviewing CF 3 or 4 times. Of course he already has an Akron connection in Dwight Smith.
I like Frye because you look at him and expect very little, but he always seems to come through. He beat us this year and last and in his first game. I hope he goes high in the draft and read in more that one place on the web that he had first round potential.

You pissy Akron fans are hilarious. Charlie DID do a good job yesterday, so I said so. In another thread that I started, I took Craig James to task for not giving him enough respect.

That said, he was still the 3rd best QB in the MAC last year, and 4th best the year before. This league has outstanding QB's, get over it...and get over yourselves. He may or may not be NFL caliber, that remains to be seen. One thing I do know, he's tough and he's a winner, and I will be rooting hard for him to succeed.
Since those of us in the East had to deal with this guy Frye for 4 years I think you West folks are a bit behind the curtain in your evaluation of Frye. Toledo has not played against him ever and BG fans only got to see him once during his freshman season.

Stats do not make the QB and those of you who measured this kid by his team's performance should take heed, as the guys on TV said on Saturday. The Akron OL and skill players were total crap, especially this season. In our game Frye beat us singlehandedly coming from 17 down. Gradkowski and the BG quarterback had BOWL-TYPE players around them that helped their numbers look better, Frye had nothing. And since the kid was the Vern Smith Award winner and 2nd team ALL-MAC despite his supporting cast I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

And best of all I don't have to see that son of a @#$% ever again.

CATS IN THE HOUSE!
While Realist rivals Kit-Cat for the most outlandish poster here, I have to say he makes a valid point in this case. I remember several doubters on this board about Charlie. Oh, they'd say, he's good, but not one of the great ones in the MAC. And Bobcat Fred makes a good pitch, as well; maybe many of them in the West just didn't play against him enough to know.

If you think that he was the 3rd or 4th best QB in the MAC, this year or last, you are wrong. It is funny that the pissy Toledo fans, who've never personally seen the kid play a down of football, are so sure of themselves when it comes to opinions on Frye.

I personally saw him play about 28 times. He was the best QB on the field in 25 of those games. Unfortunately, that doesn't always translate into wins or gaudy stats...the only things that those such as Toledo fans have to base their opinions on.

If you missed Frye, you missed a great one.

Most "doubters" merely pointed out that there were better QB's in the MAC than Frye...and there are. Granted he didn't have the supporting cast that West teams did, but he also didn't have to battle Toledo, BG and NIU. The East for the past two years has been Miami.

Frye is tough and can really launch the ball down the field at times. Two other MAC QB's can, too...and win at the same time. Another one apprears ready to break out and be great in his own right.

Again, best of luck to Frye. I hope he does very well in the NFL, and he represented this conference well yesterday.
