That would make four 3 star recruits....

Could be best class ever?

Wow, that's huge. I know gcd has mentioned Moore's grades, but he could be worth taking a shot, especially if it helped us land anyone else . . . Like - Maybe Rice and Moore had some impact on Brown, who by the way, is a nice addition to the LB corps.

Anyway . . .

Hey, <a href='http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sports_story.asp?intid=3838356' target='_blank'>Daily Herald</a> has a recruiting review on all local schools.

The NIU portion:

Northern Illinois

The only variable in Northern Illinois' recruiting is reputation, which continues to rise.

Joe Novak is the longest-tenured coach (nine years) in a league (Mid-American Conference) that has witnessed eight coaching changes in the last two seasons. NIU has won 27 games since 2001, including a 9-3 run last year that culminated in its first bowl appearance since 1983.

Did the Huskies carry their momentum into recruiting?

"It's almost like clockwork for them," Lemming said. "They're the steadiest staff in the Midwest, always hitting Chicago hard and getting top-notch players.

"Their profile is a lot higher now than it was a year ago."

Novak said the bowl was "a deciding factor" for several players.

"I can't say we're on par with Michigan and Ohio State, but with some of the other (Big Ten) schools I think we are," he said. "We're close to home; we've been winning. Kids have a choice. They can come here right now as we're having success. Or they can go to a Big Ten school and maybe not have that success."

Novak steered his Midwest-based recruiting toward defense, particularly the secondary, which loses two starters to graduation. Melvin Rice, a speedy cornerback from Chicago, tops NIU's list of defensive backs.

"They're in need of corners, and (Rice) has a shot of getting early playing time," O'Halloran said. "(NIU's) no longer a fallback for kids. They project on kids that might be an inch or two shorter than the Big Ten kids, or maybe 20-30 pounds lighter."

Novak didn't neglect his offense, taking local linemen Jake Wertz (Stevenson) and Eddie Adamski (Carmel). NIU's best athlete could be Justin Anderson, an option quarterback from Chicago who will play running back.

"Offensive line was critical," Novak said, "and we got five commits at that spot."
So we stole Brown from BSU? :D

While I would like to be consistent and disapprove of Sam Porter going to Illinois now, if we have Phillip Brown, another Ball State recruit who changed their mind, is something going on down there? If one player changes his commitment, that is bad. Once a second uncommit occurs, it makes you wonder if there is something going on with the program.

It does make you wonder. However, if a Big 10 school comes calling, it's probably hard for a local high schooler to pass up. Perhaps, Porter was off and Brown didn't want to be the only Morgan Park player left at BSU. Well, he and that guy from last year, but with Rice and Moore committing to NIU, maybe he thought twice about where he wanted to attend. Who knows how much influence they have on each other though. Has BSU lost any other players? Is this isolated to the MP players? Maybe that's something to look into. Regardless, I guess we can now end the debate about how great the BSU recruiting class is.

Who was the second?
Sam Porter to Illinois

Phillip Brown to NIU

Brown wanted to de committ from Ball St and he had to tell BSU. I think we were honoring his committment and would only take a kid if the kid initiates it. Thats alot different then continually recruiting a kid after he commits like UI on Adamski. Moore, probably will be a chance kid

I think he means porter?
Well, that was already said. Besides porter is a DE.

Well if you read the question he was answering...
I did, but the fact that neither Brown nor Porter are DBs made me ask. The question was answered two posts ahead of him and GCD is on top of his game when it comes to this stuff. He knows they're not DBs. Therefore, I thought he may have been talking about their High School teammate, Melvin Rice. Not to mention there are times GCD likes to talk in code.

Hmmmmmm GCD also told us to forget moore...ect ect.

We all swing and miss sometimes.
This is good fun, but let's wait for the list to see who really makes it on the LOI list. Moore may be non qualifer for the first year. so GCD could e correct so what correct.
Moore could still wind up a CHANCE kid and that will make him right in regard to his grades.

I'll wait for gcd to clarify. If he meant "corner" as either Brown or Porter, then you win, Willy. With his penchant for talking in toungues, I wouldn't put it past him to be telling us something new. If he's wrong, he's wrong, but I'd like to hear what he has to say.

With or without moore this is a super talented class with a very talented RB, if moore stays a nice WR, and a handful of great DBs with solid OL.

Not to mention the fact we have 3 or 4 lbs in this class to go with a handful of DEs.

It's going to be hard to find someone who had a better class than we did in the MAC.

Rice isn't being looked at by U of I, or looking at U of I, Rice was may still be looking to michigan.

I believe the Chance program gets a kid into school, but doesn't get him qualified according to the NCAA.
