I remember BG having some fraternities on campus.

The gents bought their haircuts in bulk, if memory serves.

In my day, the campus was a mere 10% greek. I don't know if that's changed at all.

I thought it was more like 20 percent, at least in the early 1990s.

I was in the non-greek majority.
Thankfully, I didn't feel the need to buy my friends.

But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

I won't comment on the whole "buying friends thing", but:

I don't believe it was ever that high, Schad. I could be wrong but I doubt highly that almost 1 in 4 students were a part of the social greek set. It could very well have been 20% with honors/service/professional greek organizations.

My wife attended SMU and she looked at me like I had a 3rd eye when I told her that BG had a very small percentage of student pledge social fraternities/sororities. I guess at SMU the percentge was closer to 75% or higher. If you weren't greek at SMU, you weren't.

I believe it has something to do with the Dallas "keeping up with the Jones" mind set which plagues Texas (pronounced Tay-Has).

She wasn't greek, by the way.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon… Are there others?
