I raised this question on the BG Board and so will repeat it here. I believe there is a solid consensus in answering it--the most difficult position to recruit is interior defensive linemen (and this doesn't include defensive ends).

In this year's recruiting class, BG signed at least 4 prospective interior defensive linemen. Several fans have been arguing that this is the major weakness in BG's team.

I can't think of any BG players who have gone on to solid NFL careers at this position. And for that matter, I can't think of any MAC players at all.

Again, I think interior defensive linemen are the most difficult players to recruit. The ability of the MAC to make progress here may well be a sign of its progress on the national scene.
Great defensive linemen that have a combination of good size (i.e. 6-3, 300) and excellent quickness.

Great tight ends in the Jeremy Shockey/Kellen Winslow mold.

We had one of those.
We made him a point forward on the basketball team.
No sense casting pearls before swine. 03-wink

I think MAC teams recruit some kids who could, potentially, be very good tight ends. But their skills usually end up being in greater demand elsewhere (the basketball team, for example 03-razz )

So a guy coasted for a few years at KSU; goofed off and took the easy way out.

What's new about that?
DL is probably the spot where there is less depth for many schools. I think it is hard to find really good DL's.

Of course Toledo had some good ones over the years. DE Bob Beemer played in the NFL for a year or two and of course DT Dan Wilkinson was a 1st rounder and played many years in the NFL. However, Toledo hasn't had a lot of luck in recent years with getting big, strong, and fast DL's.

Too Predictable.

Let's see. What is the most difficult position to recruit? Uh, the one that BGSU just recruited!

I knew that before I opened your thread.

Do you guys have your own airport by chance? Just wondering.
Just because BG got 4 DT recruits, I don't think he is saying that BG can recruit at the most difficult position while others can't.

Anybody can pick up recruits, but if they are not very good recruits in comparison to what OSU, Miami Fl, Oklahoma, etc. is bringing in then that doesn't mean that they are doing good in their recruiting of DT's. Maybe I read his post wrong, but I didn't think he was gloating about who BG brought in at all.

rocketfootball, you're spot on.

The key is, what position is difficult to recruit well? We've been griping for some time at AZZ that our DTs are woefully undersized. The new recruits do little to change that.

As for blowing our own horn, I would describe the overall response on AZZ to the new recruiting class as mixed, at best. More accurately, I'd say it's lukewarm. After some deeper analysis, I think most folks feel good about it, but you're not likely to get a lot of chest-thumping over it.

My Bad,

Maybe it was the "we are the media darling", or the "how do you keep them down on the Bancroft farm?" that I was responding to. I am all for open discussion and anyone with the cajones to post! 03-wink

These guys may all be projects.
The two most difficult positions to recruit for are defensive tackle and cornerback and of these two, cornerback is probably the most difficult.

Considering the source of this question, I tend to think that LakelandRocket reached the right conclusion. Santa Fe Falcon always has an agenda for his posts. They all seem to boil down to "BG rules, the rest of you eat our $#!t." He apparently sits around until he comes up with new ways to say it.

Did you watch the Super Bowl? The Eagle's DT-
#78 Hollis Thomas - is a Northern Huskie.
IN the MAC, it used to be QB. QBs with ability want to go where they can get media. The last 10 years has changed the MAC. We now have at least a chance to get a talent at QB. I will go for the D-line for now.
have to agree with bsu alum... def line... especially the ends.

Bowling Green fans would say interior rather than ends.

Don't forget Brent Williams.

I can't believe no one caught my post. Brent Williams is the guy I meant. I accidentilly said Dan Wilkinson, who played for Ohio State, not Toledo.
