Ball St. players shot; police probe

By Justin Hesser, Daily News
March 3, 2005
(U-WIRE) MUNCIE, Ind. -- Police are investigating the shooting of two Ball State University football players that occurred outside a Fort Wayne Taco Bell, Michael Joyner, public information officer for the Fort Wayne Police Department, said.

Joyner said Wednesday the two players involved in the incident were juniors Larry Bostic and Chris Jackson.

"It's a very active investigation," Joyner said.

The incident occurred on Jan. 8, the weekend before spring semester started, at 2:30 a.m.

Joyner said he had been told by other officers that Bostic, who is a Fort Wayne native, and Jackson had not been helping much with the investigation.

"The comment given to me was they weren't being very cooperative," he said. "You can take that for it's worth."

Joyner said the incident occurred at 3320 Saint Joe Center Road, and a manager at Taco Bell confirmed the franchise has a store at that address but refused further comment.

No more information could be released by the police department because the investigation is ongoing, Joyner said.

Associate Athletics Director Joe Hernandez said he didn't know much about the incident, other than people have said it happened. He said because no charges have been filed, there is nothing the school can do.

"It was a personal situation that had nothing to do with football," Hernandez said.

Hernandez could not say whether anyone in the athletic department had talked with Bostic and Jackson about cooperating, just that the two had spoken with head football coach Brady Hoke.

"I haven't talked to either one of them; Coach Hoke has talked to them," Hernandez said. "Everyone is just waiting on the police."

Hoke and Jackson could not be reached for comment. Hoke was out of town and Jackson did not return a message left for him. When Bostic was reached, he would not comment.

Last season Bostic was moved from wide receiver to running back but played only two games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. In those two games, he rushed for 114 yards on 30 attempts.

During Bostic's first two years he caught 61 passes for 677 yards and nine touchdowns.

After being redshirted his freshman year and not playing his sophomore season, Jackson saw limited action in 2004. Jackson, who is from Muncie, is the younger brother of former Ball State basketball standout Patrick Jackson.

The cheddarheads have no problem with people having special
relations with adult cows.
