Flashing promise: Who was the second team to benefit from Creighton's win in the Missouri Valley Conference championship?

Kent State. The Golden Flashes won by nine at Creighton in December. The rise in stature of that win — plus a 17-point win over Ohio on Saturday — offsets some of the sting of a 25-point loss at Miami of Ohio last week and a 26-point loss at Ohio in January.

Kent State hasn't lost to anyone worse than Bowling Green or Ball State and has six victories over teams that are contending for at-large berths this week. They have a chance for a seventh on Tuesday against Ohio in the MAC tournament quarterfinals.

If other bubble teams keep faltering, then the Golden Flashes could swoop in for an at-large bid.

No teams moved into or out of the projected field since the previous update.

It's about a third of the way down.

Got to believe that Buffalo was helped out by Niagara's thumping of Rider last night. It gives Buffalo a quality (Top 100) non-conference win.

Creighton and Old Dominion winning takes away two possible contenders for the at-large spots. The MAC teams now compete with St. Mary's, Northern Iowa, SMS and Wichita St among non majors for the at-large. With a little luck, Holy Cross, UW-Milwaukee and Vermont win their tournament tonight and those teams don't get in the way.
