I made a couple of posts on the MAC expansion thread started by my good friend CrushMI that may be taken the wrong way. We're all excited about the prospect of joining the MAC. The only way we can settle these petty message board posts is by settling it on the field or court. If you visited my posts on the above mentioned thread, you saw that I referenced some numbers concerning football and basketball rankings. I only have one moe list to provide:

Street and Smith's Top 100 College Basketball programs of all time:

#31-WKU
#47-Miami
#86-OU

I believe our resume is complete as far as the big 2 sports are concerend, so I won't mention women's bball (2Final4's, 1 Championship game, Men's swimming-Bill Powell, all-time winningesst coach in NCAA history, or baseball, playing inthe 4th rated conference)
Once again, WKU is the best basketball program nobody's heard of......

Does not equal a national perception boost for the MAC.
Kit-Cat,

The ESPN talking heads know who we are. WKU joining will boost the MAC's credibility with those assclowns. They will then tell the masses what to think. WKU and Temple joining will launch the MAC onto the lips of these people, regardless of future performance. What I'm saying is this will grow the MAC basketball brand and the brand in general. While conference presidents and ADs may talk RPI and bowls to the public, they talk branding to each other......$$$$$$$$$$.
The only worry from the MAC administration is if WKU is committed to spend the funds to get FB on par. The answer to that is YES!!
I BengalBob, I agree with you, and I do not agree with Kit-Cat. Pay on attention to Kit-Cat because he thinks Notre Dame and University Michigan are going to join the MAC.:)

However, your administration needs to convince the MAC Presidents because they, and only they, are the ones who decide. See the post by Vandelay.

No.

No.

Absolutely no.

If WKU is an emblem of respect for any conference that housing them why does the Sun Belt have zero respect?

No, I just don't think the problems of MAC basketball are fixed by expansion.

Look at the Missouri Valley. They don't have Western Kentucky and they might land 3 bids in the dance. The problem is the MAC has too many schools in it right now making it difficult for the top programs to shine.

The MAC has a plan. Its not expansion, its contraction. Next year we move from 13 schools to 12 in basketball. The worst program in the league (Marshall) has been shown the door. Twelve teams playing in Cleveland next year. The top 4 schools receive byes in 2006. A 16 game conference basketball schedule.

In the end result, the changes made moving to a 12 team conference will move the MAC from being a 1-2 bid conference to a 2-3 bid conference for the future and that is the goal in basketball.

You are wrong. A lot of people in the basketball world has heard of WKU. What really counts is the perception of the national media and the NCAA selection committee. The national media has already said that adding WKU would be great for the MAC in basketball. SI, ESPN, and many newspapers have already said this.

No it won't. You are smoking again Kit-cat.

Why are you even weighing in on this thread? You aren't very knowledgeable about basketball.
KitKat - Why would you even be weighing in on this thread? I just read a post of yours on another thread where you claim that OU will be leaving the MAC anyway. If so why do you care about MAC expansion?

By the way, I think WKU would enhance the MAC basketball perception Nationally.

Why do you say that I am not knowledgeable on basketball? I bet I know more about the game then you do. Sure, my screen name is rocketfootball but I played basketball and also coached for several years.
RF, you know that kitkat doesn't like facts. Using them to refute his claims merely results in more outrageous commentary from his deluded mind.

And can you explain in very concrete terms how WKU will help our perception?

Didn't think so..... 03-lol

Sure buddy.........

Its called when you can't refute my arguement, its time to resort to name calling and slander.

Typical thinking by 75% of this board.

What argument? You made an incorrect statement because you don't actually know anything about me. CR on the other hand has met me a few times and even though he probably doesn't know much about me, he actually knows a heck of a lot more about me then you do.

And who are you to talk about name calling and slander? You once posted on here that you hoped that Michael Jackson would get a hold of my children!!!!!

Then why are you here? If you don't like what 75% of the board says then do us all a favor and just leave.

I bet you don't understand as much about College Basketball post season selection and perception as I do. I'm familiar with the tradition of every division 1 conference, with a sound understanding of why leagues are aligned they way they are.

And you don't. What is WKU's perception right now? Its an afterthought NIT team. All that matters in perception in basketball is the current stature of a program and WKU has nothing more than any other small town MAC program.

Now Charlotte.....5 tourney appearances under their current coach, top 25 program.......a market worth TV dollars.....this is the kind of program that would change the MAC's perception and add instant money to the league.

When the A-10 went about expanding they added Charlotte and Saint Louis, not WKU. WKU has no value.....its not even a top 40 program, let alone a top 15 type program which the MAC really needs to increase its perception.

How would you know what I know?

And to play your game, Charlotte is very good at basketball. They finished 2nd in C-USA this year and are 21-7 and in the NCAA tournament. However, they will never play I-A football and the MAC should not take any team that does not at least have a roadmap to I-A football within the next few years so that they will be playing I-A football when they join the MAC. WKU does have I-A football in its roadmap.

I don't want the MAC taking any schools for just basketball. And to be honest, Charlotte wouldn't want to be in the MAC. For one thing, Charlotte totally does not fit in with the MAC. They are in North Carolina!!!! Many think that WKU being in Bowling Green, KY is too far away. Well, Charlotte is another 250 miles further away than Bowling Green, KY is.
