I stopped in Monday afternoon to check out practice for a while. Never had any problems in Lot 10 before. There were plenty of spaces open. Upon returning to the car I found a yellow envelope in the windshield. I figured, "Well, this is probably going to cost me 60 bucks. Oh well--it's a good cause." What I read on the tag made my hair stand on end:  $134.50  HOLY CRAP!!

I was seriously going to buy season tickets this year. If I can't at least negotiate this down it looks like my money will be going to a different department. :(
If you do not have a parking pass, they charge you for that as well, $99.50. The ticket is actually $35.00. Personally, I would take it to the parking services office and tell them to shove it up their ******.
if you do have a pass that you use for basketball games or football games, such as presidents club, you can somhow fill out something with the pass # and you don't have to pay for it.

RocketRobert, don't feel bad I got one yesterday too.

I made a call and I think we can weasel our way out of it.

Ditto on the season ticket thought if I have to pay $134.50. That's insane!!!
My wife picked one up about a month ago too. She had to file an appeal or something where they check to see if you actually have a parking pass(which she does, im still not sure why didn't she have it displayed though)if you do have a parking pass you dont have to pay the ticket I guess, because she got out of it.

I agree with you guys, $135 is nuts! 03-banghead
I remember when I was in school at UT, fall of 1993, my last quarter there. I got a parking ticket and blew it off. Figured they wouldn't think anything of it. Then they threatened me with not graduating. So, I paid the $20 or whatever it was.

Yes. If you are a student and owe parking tickets to the University they will not send you your diploma until you pay them.

In the case of watching football practice though, I would think that they would work with you on this and let the ticket slide. I would check with the AD office on this.
Thanks, guys. While it is a bit humiliating, I'm glad I posted this. Hey--I don't mind taking a slap on the hands and paying something. But, come on--it's not like we were endangering life or property. It's a parking violation. Be realistic.

Speeding – driving 1 to 19 mph above the posted limit $55

so, if you're going say 26 MPH in a 25 MPH zone, they can bust you up for $55? YIKES!
I attend school at UT and got a 134.50 ticket the other day becasue I forgot to put my pass back up becuase my dad took my car so I put the pass in his truck to use and forgot to take it out, and I got a 134.50 ticket, I appelled it yesterday.....Last year (My Freshman year) I spent at least 300+ on tickets trying to be able to park on Campus becasue freshman have to park like 5-10 minutes away and about 1/2 of my classes were at Scott Park. I got a big one last year it was like 100+ that I had to pay for, for trying to forge a pass, I borrowed my Roomates Commuter pass because he transfered home 2nd Semester, man was that a mistake.... 03-banghead
If I wasn't a student and I got a ticket I wouldn't pay. What can they hold against you? Diploma, transcripts, grades? None of that means anything if your not a student. Although I am sure I might be missing something here.
I've gotten two tickets in my two years at UT...

1 - My parents got a ticket for not having a pass when they picked me up for my sister's funeral my freshman year. They had my car because they needed it to drive down to Florida to take care of some stuff (my sister was living there at the time), and all they have is two trucks. I appealed it, but it was denied. $35.

2 - My second week of this semester, I was given a ticket for "no permit," when my updated commuter pass was placed on my mirror. I appealed it, but it was denied. $40.

If I ever see the Parking Nazi's when there's no one around and only one of them in the vehicle, I do plan to do severe bodily harm.

try a warrant I believe. I'm pretty sure that they can be held with the same weight as a regular ticket.
Actually they get your info through the DMV and send you a notice of "failure to pay" and threaten to dock your paycheck or take you to court... I found this out when I was using my aunt's car for a week and my parking pass fell off the mirror and I didn't realize it. I didn't even know I got a ticket b/c it wasn't there when I got back to the car but about 3 months later she called me and said she got a letter from UT saying she now owed $65 because of late fees etc. Back then, you didn't have to pay for the parking pass and the ticket.... But hey RocketRobert, if they charge you for the parking pass plus the fine for the ticket tell them you want a pass to hang on your mirror so this doesn't happen in the future since you are paying them for it anyway....

Good luck with fighting it, I would think they would welcome visitors to campus and not punish them.
are the basketball ushers now working on parking patrol? seems an awful lot like trying to change seats at a b-ball game.

Find Out who the Manager is. We'll start an email campaign, and let them know how alums feel about this kind of B.S.

What was interesting in my case was that I had just left a meeting over at Savage where I was in discussion with the Athletic Staff about substantially increasing my donation to the Rocket fund, as well as advertising Toledo Rockets Fuel in the football/basketball programs.

Came back from the meeting to go watch a little of the football practice only to find my own $134.50 "gem" on the windshield of my van. I was not amused. Someone has come up with a really bad policy.
If you're going to be parking in one of the lots when school's in stop by the information building(around the parking garage) and they should give you a temporary pass good for the day, or you can talk to someone in the parking office in Rocket Hall and they should be able to help you. A couple years ago they had problems with students not getting parking passes at all which is why they cracked down on it. I'd imagine that the fees for the passes go towards maintenance of parking areas and it's needed. There's no way of them to tell what the person is doing that is parked there without a pass in their car. Before I used to make my own parking spaces at the end of a row if I was running late for class, as soon as I got the pamphlet that they mailed saying they were raising the fine for parking tickets I quikly changed that practice.
I'll go through the published "appeal process". I just got done drafting a letter to accompany the appeal form. Hopefully whoever handles the appeal will be intelligent enough to "read between the lines" and toss it aside. If not, how does that saying go "penny wise, pound foolish".

Good points, and you can totally understand that. The campus needs to be secure and, with parking at a premium, I can understand a tight policy. I've parked in Lot 10 to check out practices for probably 4 years now, never with any problems. The thing is, there were always plenty of spots open. If they were going to start really cracking down on it you would think they would start out with a reasonable fine to get your attention, then ramp it up on repeat offenses--not rape you on the first offense. But, if the $134 includes the cost of a $99 permit, then you should be able to decline the permit and pay the difference. I really wouldn't have a problem with that. I guess I'll go thru "due process" with RangerRocket and we'll see what transpires. In the mean-time everyone else is forwarned.
