Ok guys,I dying for scrimmage info!I know it was sunny and 62 degrees-perfect FB weather.Somebody report something asap!
I'm watching 3 kids under the age of 2 right now so I don't have much time to say a lot.

They practiced for about an hour and then scrimmaged for about 50 minutes.

Trinity looks strong and good running the ball this fall.

The defense played very well and got A LOT of pressure on the QB's. Rose is doing a great job with these guys. Tyree Pollard is a beast.

More later including pictures.

I'll second RF's remarks, Dawson appears to be much faster this spring, if that's possible, and he was very hard to bring down once he hit a crease in the line.

Tim Rose is a high energy guy and the entire defense seems to be warming to his rah-rah approach.
Just a couple impressions.

I have such a tendancy to lock on to watching the offense that I miss a lot the detail on the defensive side. But, in general, it seemed to me that the #1 offense moved the ball pretty well against the #2 defense, but not so well against the #1 D. The 1's seemed confident and stingy when it came to giving up yards.

All the RB's did well, but the defense seemed to have the most trouble with Trinity.

Council threw the ball as crisply as I've ever seen him throw it. Cochran and Goolsby also threw well, but their lack of experience showed. I think that, with a little more experience under his belt, if Cochran had to go in as a backup he could do a comptetent job, though.
Thanks FJ and RF-that's what I'm looking for. Can't wait mto see the pics and the filed report.I think I'm more excited this year than even last if that's possible. The idea of an attacking Rocket defense making great hits and forcing alot of turnovers is the best.
I think everyone will be very impressed with the defense this fall. They actually have a bit of a swagger starting, believe it or not. LB Joel Shreve caused a fumble during the scrimmage and the defense recovered. He ran over to the sideline as the defensive guys were yelling for him and he took a swagger step or two and then said "I ****** his a** up!" And that wasn't the only time I saw a bit of a swagger by the defense. These guys are waking up.

I'll try to get the pictures up and a better report yet tonight. Gotta get my kids to bed now.
three under the age of two? are you working on your own starting 11 there?

anyways, thanks for the updates. and how'd the receivers look. do we have any deep threats emerging? was N. Moore on the field? any of the younger speed guys (Redd, Hawkins, etc...) break anything open?

aloha, have a good weekend

Only two were mine. I was watching a friend's kid too. Although my wife is pregnant with kid #3 due in early July.

Nick Moore practiced, but he did not scrimmage because of a minor injury. Hawkins scored a TD on a bubble screen play where he showed his amazing speed.

More later.
Here is my take.

First off, I was honored to have fellow officials from the Big East, MAC, Big Ten and Division III level (such as myself) for this afternoon's game. It was my first division IA scrimmage ever and certainly a wonderful memory. Half of my crew worked at UM yesterday afternoon.

Second fact, man are these kids fast. Yes I see some super fast kids from Cleveland Glenville and other greater Cleveland high schools, but UT certainly has some perimeter speed. If you think they look fast from the stands, try being on the field with them.

Now I could not always see who was doing what since my function of observation and officiating was from the beyond the deepest safety, but here is what I saw:

-All QBs looked pretty good and had good zip on the ball
-Overall, I thought the defense outplayed the offense, and yes our D-line looked pretty decent
-Overall DB coverage schemes are much better than years past, the DBs were actually running -with the WRs as opposed to being ten or 15 yards off in the Lou West schemes.
-#15 Mike Chamberlin & #9 De'Veon Harris look like very good athletes at OLB
-#73, which I would look up now to be Greg Luna, consistantly pushed his guy back on every running play I noticed him on
-David Washington is not 6-5, he has to be closer to 6-7
-The kickers looked pretty good - nice to see that
-I WR #3 looked pretty good too - who is he?
-The TE's all looked good and very big
-The defesnive intensity was quite high the entire time

Overall, it was tremendous fun, and we got a few Subway sandwiches out of it - certainly worth the 2-hour drive

Sorry to have missed Rocketfootball - was that you on the field with the kids near the endzone?

Great analysis Nick and I agree about Washington......he is friggin' tall. By the way, is he standing next to you in this picture? 03-wink

That was not me by the end zone. I was on the sideline with the defense standing by two other guys, RangerRocket and Photodan.

during and after class I was talking to someone on the rockets D that said that Coach Rose is really firing them up and getting them ready. They seem to really like him.
That ref picture is not me, I was in the middle of field as the back judge - behind the FS. He was the field judge on the home side.

I know. I was just messin' with you, because Washington is towering over that guy so much that it looks pretty funny.
