I humbly request that both of you Akron fans refrain from shooting the messenger here.

Oh, why not, just for sport:
:biggun:
Last night on Sports Center, Mel Kiper has Frye going in the 2nd round.
Overrated and underrated are very vague words.
As a first round pick this year, Frye is probably overrated. As a third round pick, he is probably underrated. Depends if you want to call him one or the other.
I'm glad to call him "gone."
I didn't get the impression from the article that the guy watched much tape on Frye, and certainly not as much as the others. He may be anti-MAC or just one of those guys who can't believe regular talent comes from the MAC - only the occasional blip, like Ben. Whatever. I hope Charlie reads it. This kind of stuff only motivates him more.
I see Frye going to the Cleveland Browns with their second pick. I hope so, that would be great for the MAC to have another NFL quarterback within the conference footprint.
I keep hearing about Green Bay in the first round. The scouts keep having positive things to say about Charlie. Some short statement from an SI guy who probably watched two minutes of tape doesn't mean much.

I have a hard time believing that any MAC player can be overrated. The national media does not pay that much attention to players from our conference. It would be real tough for a MAC to be overrated.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this guy reccomended the Browns draft Couch. Why? He came from a big conference, so you could ignore that he played hard one day, slacked the next. Shouldn't be a problem in the NFL. (where's the smiley that gives the finger???) I saw that one comming big time, should've taken McNAbb!

The MAC produces better prepared Quarterbacks because we don't have the same depth as those "BIG TYME" schools. Charlie will be fine in the NFL becasue he had to work his a$$ off for the Zips. Result, better decision making ala Big Ben who was great until he met the perfect defense.

How many times have these guys promoted a big time QB, who fell flat. All the while ignoring what really helps develop talent.

? What conference did Bret Favre play in?

? Why is the Univ. of Cincinnati known for producing better linemen than OSU?

A: Wouldn't know, their teams arent hyped on ESPN. 03-confused

It is apparent, this guy doesn't believe you can be a talent unless you've shared a schedule similar to Notre Dames', who ofcousre has enjoyed great success in the draft over the last 10 years!

Thats my rant anyways

The MAC
better ingredients!
better football!
:bluethumb:
I think most of the QB's in this year's draft are probably overrated.
It is impossible for any Akron player to be overrated, ever.

I believe that (generally) less prosperous schools produce better QBs simply because they don't have the depth of talent at the OL and WR positions. Simply put, they do have to learn to run an offense and read the defenses, becuase the Florida system of "you can't cover all 5 of our WRs" just doesn't apply.

Brett Farve didn't play in a conference. Southern Miss was an independent while he was there.

Cincinnati produces better linemen than tOSU, because thugs are naturally better linemen. :D

Yeah, but Adrian McPherson is looking good.

Seroiusly, if McPherson got his act together, more power to him. But it seems like these media are creating stories as the draft nears.
Frye is the real deal. I live 10 minutes from the Rubber Bowl and saw him play numerous times. If these "experts" can't see the talent in this guy.... :chair:

I hope Frye is a huge success in the NFL. 04-rock
Peter King is a dolt. Did he watch the NFL last year?
Or, even hear about the relative performances
of Big Ben and Eli Manning?

"This looks like a great NFL player." Ditto each of the other last four top picks, really -- Michael Vick (2001), David Carr (2002) and Eli Manning (2004) ... though I could respect the arguments of those last year who put Robert Gallery, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Sean Taylor or Kellen Winslow in the discussion with Manning.

Put Ben Roethlisberger in the discussion with Manning??????????

King, among many others, was a big defender of Eli.

It's NYC. What do you expect? They've got to hype the guy.

Put him on the Cardinals w/ that record and they'd call him "Tim Couch" or "Ryan Leaf".
I liked their reasons for him being overrated.

Sport shooting of Oddball?

Are you planning to mount him?

Nah, that's been done too many times already.
Who is that guy ranked just ahead of Charlie?

MAC has 5 in the top 25. Not too shabby.

If you could combine that guy with Charlie, maybe he'd be up there with Bruce and Omar. 03-razz
